Media Recs with Women being Awesome.

Two reviews/recommendations for fiction focusing on their multiple, complex women:

Bioware's "Dragon Age" games utilize a fantasy setting close to "Game of Thrones" with a mythology that's very like the Arthurian myths, with one major difference: Instead of giving us a medieval fantasy view of gender dynamics as most fantasy fiction does, Dragon Age creates a world in which women are roughly the equal of men, where women hold influential and powerful positions within the world and within the narrative, with complex and open sexualities that they're not punished for. These women also maintain and initiate complex and enduring friendships with each other. I wrote a detailed review of the "Dragon Age" world and its women here.

ABC's "Revenge" is a contemporary take on Alexandre Dumas' "The Count of Monte Cristo" with a woman at its center. This show features multiple, complex women who have complex relationships with each other and who influence the world in which they live. A more detailed write-up of the show and the women is here.
