Ziva David, a study in fiction

Feb 14, 2011 23:00

NCIS wouldn't be the same for me and wouldn't have suckered me in so hard if it weren't for Ziva David - one pretty, badass, conflicted, torn and very messed up girl with too many nuances for her own good. The real beauty of Ziva? Is that she's not just as obviously tough and kickass as this...

... but is also incredibly vulnerable when you least expect it, like this...

And she never really learned to deal with emotion too well. Pesky feelings are the one thing to incapacitate her faster than any bullet or knife could.

So, over the past year I have written 60 stories in total - most of them shipping Tony and Ziva, one way or the other. Some of them, though, have a heavy focus on her, and these I want to share here. All of them are as difficult and complicated as Ziva is herself. Some are not quite nice, some are painful, some are steamy.

History
summary: Tony discovers that there are things in Ziva's past that he isn't quite ready for.
word count: around 1,000

Time, Fleeting
summary: When Ziva is injured in the line of duty, she has to re-evaluate her life.
word count: around 24,000

Over Troubled Water
summary: The case they are investigating on stirs up things in Ziva's past. And Tony notices. (set during "Patriot Down")
word count: around 2,700

Director's Cut
warnings & rating: The shippy part of this is drunken, very adult almost-sweetness - well, as sweet as two emotionally inept people can get. The Somalia/backgroundy part is anything but sweet.
word count: around 7,400

Glitter
summary: Ziva, undercover, in a night club. And Tony gets to watch. (very much *not* safe for work)
word count: around 2,000

Loss of
summary: A short tag to "Truth or Consequences", about as painful as the whole episode.

Pony
summary: Ziva needs reassurance, and she needs it in the middle of the night. (short tag to "Enemies Domestic")
word count: a little less than 1,900

Fast Track
summary: Ziva's past, through her eyes and mind, beginning when she is sixteen, ending a short time after "Enemies Domestic". Spoilers up to that episode. Yes, it is T/Z, but that isn't the point of this story. ;)
word count: 4,300

The Flavor of the Wind
summary: "Henna-painted leafs grew up her toes, wrapping themselves around her ankles, and for a second he wondered how far up her leg the decoration went."

warnings & rating: This is a historical AU, set in a time and place when slavery was common, and it involves slave!Tony and slave trader!Ziva, so please be aware of this before you go in.
word count: 49,000 in total
