Picpsam. Brown Sugar Chivalries
I just finished watching this drama and while the ending makes me rage the women in it are awesome, so have a picspam. :)
Brief synopsis taken from Wikipedia: In the world of martial arts, there have been legends of many powerful warriors. The strongest to ever walk the Earth are West Side Principal, Zhou Da Tong, Tian Shan Tong Lao, and the villain Dong Fang Bu Bai.
Right now, the four martial arts schools, and the world along, are facing a danger approached by Dong Fang Bu Bai. The principal of West Side School gathers the best students from all four schools in hopes to train them into powerful warriors so they can fight against the enemy and restore peace to the world.
Lu Jian Ning. I love Jian Ning, she's one of my favourite characters in this. Her martial art skills are weak and she even admits that if her father wasn't the head teacher of the school she would be asked to leave. However, Jian Ning is big-hearted and fiercely protective of those she loves. She has a very strong sense of justice and reacts accordingly, which sometimes gets her into trouble.
Ren Ying Ying. Her parents were originally part of an evil cult - an underground reaction against the power and light of the four major acadamies - only for them to break away later, so when Ying Ying arrives at the West Side Academy where the drama is set she's very much a loner and ostracised for who her parents were. Circumstances change however and she's forced into making connections with people, especially her roommates Jian Ning and Xiao Long Nu, and I love the friendship these three have, which more on later. :)
Xiao Long Nu. Many of the main students in this have a special ability of some kind. Jian Ning doesn't, Ying Ying's skill is with her weapon of choice: her whip. Xiao Long Nu? Her skill is with her voice: her Lion's Roar emits powerful soundwaves that can deafen and/or otherwise repel opponents. However, her ability has also impaired her hearing so after about the second or third episode she wears a hearing aid so she can hear what's going on around her. It's also referenced a couple of times later in the series, not just forgotten about, which I love. :)
I love the friendship these three have. They don't get on at first but it develops and holds up through everything thrown at them, so even when they fight, it's still there. Even through love triangles that usually tear drama friendships apart, it's still there. They have an incredible loyalty to each other and while the men in their lives are important, so is this friendship between them and that's so good to see.
Moving on to some of the more minor characters:
Miss Zhang, the school nurse. Her reaction above is her answering a flirty student who wants a cure for love at first sight. :)
Jin Xiang Yu. Teacher and shop owner of the store that sells everything from stationary to healing potions. Estranged from her husband after his affair, she nonetheless works her butt off to find a cure for the parasite that is slowly killing him.
Tian Shan Tong Lao. One of the four most powerful warriors in the drama she's actually in her 70s and aging backwards because of her power. Oh, and she's a vampire. :D
Guardian Xie Nu. The right hand and most effective warrior of the drama's main antagonist. She's vicious and can be either subtle or brutally direct, depending on the situation at the time.
