Snowflake Challenge - Day 4, 5 & 7

Jan 08, 2019 19:58

As expected, I've already fallen behind on my Snowflake entries. This whole keeping-up-with-fandom thing was much easier in my 20's :D

Day 4 - Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.

I did this. Well, technically they followed me first, which made it easier. But lets just say I did this :D

Day 5 - In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

I've read some fantastic responses to this challenge, and I'm afraid mine definitely falls short in comparison, but anyway...

snapecase - This great fest started posting last week, so it's a perfect time to promote it! I love Snapecase for its unique structure… 5 categories, each one covering a different decade of Snape's life. It makes the fest incredibly varied and interesting, with stories showcasing him from childhood to old age. It's also one of few fests that allows all pairings plus gen fic. Some of the entries from previous years are among the best Snape fics I've ever read, so there's lots of stories worth checking out if you have time :)

deathdaydungeon - I'm still not the biggest fan of Tumblr, but I'm glad I joined, because if I hadn't I might not have discovered
deathdaydungeon's wonderful Snape & Slytherin-centric meta. Always very insightful and interesting, I definitely recommend following if you aren't already.

sarahkendzior- Not many people were more prescient and chillingly accurate about the rise and trajectory of Trump than Sarah Kendzior. A journalist and author, she was sounding the alarm about the alt-right, Trump's dictatorial tendencies, and the erosion of rights and liberties way back when everyone still thought Trump was hilarious and harmless. Her work is definitely worth keeping an eye on if you're interested in what's going on in the US, or democracies in general.

moryan - This one is mostly for TV fans… Maureen Ryan is a TV critic who moonlights as badass slayer of people who don't deserve their positions of power. She exposed Arrowverse producer Andrew Kreisberg's abusive behavior, leading to his firing, and also wrote eloquently about her own experience with sexual harassment. She's long been a genuine ally to fans and fandom, not only supporting genre shows like SPN but writing passionately about the Clexa debacle on The 100. She's long been one of my favourite women on Twitter.

Day 7 - Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you.

I read one of the very, very few fics that have popped up for my favourite TV show at the moment, Succession. It was... super dark and aaaall sorts of wrong, but very well written and frankly kind of perfect :D I SO hope more people start writing fic for that show.

I might cycle back to day six later, but I'm terrible at asking for things, fannish or otherwise, so I might just skip it! Hope everyone's doing well and I'm sorry to the people I still owe messages and/or comments ♥
