So I've been cast in the Fall Faculty show "Oedipus Rex" directed by the beloved Yuriy. Interesting things that have happened as a result:
-Goodbye, social life: The rehearsal schedule is 7-11pm Tuesday-Friday, 12-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
-Nothing is impossible... except this play: In the words of our director, "It's impossible to successfully do this play in 2 months. We will probably fail. But at least we will learn a lot in the process and have a cast party in the end!"
-The twist: Since there is only 1 female role (Jocasta), Yuriy's changed the greek chorus from old men to 4 young girls. And then we found out Tuesday that we'll be young PREGNANT girls. Raises the stakes a bit, eh?
-Mask-tastic: The show is going to be done in full masks- which no one in the production has experience in... except me. Yuriy pulled me aside and asked me to help with exercises since he's never done mask work either. No pressure or anything...
-Hannibal lecture's got nothing on us: I went to the costume shop today to be fitted for a mask. "Getting fitted" actually means smearing Vaseline all over my face, having 2 people lay plaster strips over it, then waiting 20 minutes for it to harden. It felt like an ancient spa treatment They're using the molds to make leather masks:

Time to go to rehearsal- the design team is coming in and we'll get to see the set. Sweet...
