You have my personal authorization to write about straight middle-class white guys. 'Cause boy, am I straight, white, and middle-classed. Well, technically, I'm poor. But we'll pretend so I don't get down about it. Sorry I can't do anything about gay black men from Yugoslavia or anything.
If a character is a charactiture or an archetype, they're probably not going to react like a character with more depth. That doesn't mean that they aren't (or at least can't be) interesting. The wild success of Friends seems adaquate proof. Mr. Motivation should get over it.
Someday, we'll have to talk about the differences between writing gay and lesbian couples vs. straight couples. I'm oblivious enough not to know what the big difference is.
Finally, if 2 out of 5 actors only had compliments and constructive criticism to offer, I think you're doing pretty well. That's a tough audience, and (quite frankly) you're beating the living crap out of the Prime Time Neilsons. :-)
