Yesterday afternoon, my colleague S. copied the rest of the department on an email to a vendor. I gave it a quick glance--and then another, which surely would've included a spit-take, had I been drinking anything. The email began, "Dear Leora, we received your invoice dated September 19..."
My first thought was, "Why is my coworker sending Leora email?" Then, immediately after, "Why is Leora sending us invoices?" And third, "I think that tipping thought I had was actually out loud."
Sure enough, S. asked if I was OK. I explained that her contact at M____ had the same first name as my partner, and that threw me, because it's not a common name in this country. And that, at the end of my third week on the assignment, was the end of that game. Can't say as I'll miss it, though it did keep things amusing for a while. Maybe a new game is in order now?
