The best state fair in the state

Thursday I found myself unexpectedly off work, so I did what any rational being would: I took myself to the first day of the Minnesota State Fair. I made it a sort of spiritual retreat day. You know. Like you do. I didn't tell anyone besides leorathesane that I was going; I didn't ask if anyone wanted to come along. I know that's silly, given that it's the Great Minnesota Get-Together, but I wanted to do what I wanted to do, at the pace I wanted to do it, without having to worry about whether anyone else was having a good time.

I intended to take tons of pictures, but the first time I wanted to, I discovered that, while I had my camera (yay), I had forgotten to put my memory card in. So, no pictures.

However, I can tell you that I visited the Creative Activities building, the Agriculture/Horticulture building (my only Fair "must-do"), the Eco Experience (Nice Ride bikes are so cute!), the Pet Center (lame), and DNR Park (best thing ever!). And I saw some bunny rabbits (Bunny Rabbit!).

Food-wise, I did OK. I ate more than I should have: more than if I'd been there with leorathesane; less than if I'd been there with pretty much anyone else; certainly less I have in past years or than - and I'm just guessing here - a lot of other people who were there. Nothing on a stick, I confess.

Best of all, I did it via that wacky bike/bus thing I do, thus sparing myself the heartache and walletache of fairground parking. Plus it burned off at least a couple of those corn fritter calories.

And now, you know, I've been to the Fair. It's an urge I only get every two or three years. Really, that's plenty.
