I posted the following question over there, thought I'd kick it around for any Reclaiming types here.
Marjorie & I got talking about a recent Masterpiece Theatre production called "The Jury." Anybody see it? When the defendant, a Sikh schoolboy, is called to testify, he takes his oath on the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy text.
This got us thinking: if we were called to testify in court, what would we swear on? We're not exactly swimming in sacred texts here. The Reclaiming Principles of Unity? Go secular & swear on the Constitution? We agreed we wouldn't feel right at all, swearing on a Christian Bible.
Or isn't this a choice we'd have? "The Jury," after all, is a British production. Do Americans just have to suck it up & swear on a Bible?
