Everyone needs more angsty megane pretty boys named Bob (voiced by Greg Ayres)

Here's another meme. Wow, I'm doing a lot of these lately, eh? slylilgoblin picked 7 of my interests for me to ramble on. If you comment here, I'll pick 7 of your interests for you to speak on, as well! (Unless you say you don't want to do it.)

calling people Bob: Bob's a funny, funny name. One of the elders at my old church in San Angelo (now the pastor) is named Bob Beaver. (Well, actually, Robert's his middle name. Lance is his first name. I dunno why he decided to go by Bob.) There's also Bob the Tomato...Bob the Builder...it's just a big jolly friendly name.
As for why I like to CALL people Bob...it's just sort of my generic name that I at times randomly pull out when I need to use a name. Plus, it's fun to use it in addition to something else, like Kitty-Bob, Haley-Bob, Autor-Bob...in fact, it's too bad the term 'mun' isn't actually 'Bob'. "I was talking to Dou-Bob today...we all think Rosette-Bob should draw another picture of the OT3." Epic, I tell you. Epic.

The last time I did this meme (years and years ago) I gave "Bob" nicknames to a bunch of people. I'm not going to do that now because there's soooo many people on my flist thanks to Poly, but if you comment here, perhaps I'll give you a Bob nickname?

(Honestly, part of the reason this term is still in my interests--I think I put it in when I actually JOINED--is because it amuses me greatly. ...And because of memes like this.)

pretty boys in glasses: I'll admit it. I'm a megane fangirl. I'm x2 as likely to like a character if he's wearing glasses. Autor, Satoshi, Sasame, even bit characters like the class president in Ouran. If they have a sophisticated, dorky, or sweet personality, it's a major bonus. Long or white hair, too. Mmmm.
Actually, this extends to real-life guys, too (which doesn't normally happen with what I like in anime guys). I just...love guys in glasses! (It's funny, Adam Conlon's (dub voice of Autor) cover shot doesn't show him wearing glasses, but he wears them in the 'In The Studio' extra of the DVD...and I totally think he looks better WITH the glasses. Is that sad? Probably.

Of course, I don't ALWAYS like the megane character...Aion from Chrono Crusade is one example. He's got the long white hair AND glasses, and he's sophisticated in a totally evil way, but he's just so MEAN I can't quite bring myself to fangirl. Also, Kensuke fits the profile for the sort of character I normally like, but for some reason even though I've grown to like him OK I hated him at first. So yeah, it's not always a sure thing I'll like a glasses-wearing character--just an extreme possibility.

angst: It's no secret that I love angst. To an extremely sad amount. A large number of my favorite anime, shows, movies, books, even MUSIC are angsty. Many of my favorite characters? Angst buckets. Rue was my favorite character in Princess Tutu, until episode 20...when it was revealed Fakir was responsible for the death of his parents. MAJOR. ANGST. (Of course, angst isn't the only reason I like either character--it's just a main deciding factor.) Even a large number of my favorite pairings are angsty...and my fanfic. Oh...yeah. A high percentage of my fanfics could probably be labeled as angst (although I DO write fluffy stuff at times--see the last fic i wrote for 31_days. There's only a bit of angst in that, really).

I can't really explain WHY I like angst...perhaps it's the drama in the situations, or how it can reveal parts of a character they otherwise keep hidden (particularly true in Fakir's case)...or maybe that I've got a bit of an angsty side, myself. Whatever it is, it sadly does make me a bit of a fangirl.
(Glasses-wearing boys who angst are even BETTER. XD;;;)

homeschooling: I was homeschooled from kindergarten to the end of high school. For the most part I think it was a good experience, and most of the stereotypes really aren't true--although I perhaps AM a little socially awkward...but that might've been true even if I went to school, because I actually had MORE social interactions as a kid than I probably would've if I was in school, thanks to my flexible schedule.

Fakir: one of my favorite characters from Princess Tutu. First of all...there's the angst. That growly, anti-social exterior that actually made me hate him at first, only to crumble away as his backstory is revealed, when we see him cry and lose his courage and be defeated in battle, only to rise to the challenge and stand back up again. Also, he's a totally hot straight(...ish) guy who dances ballet, fights with swords and....this is the key part...WRITES. In fact, it's the writing that was really what made him my favorite character...I myself want to be a writer, so for him to have the Story-Spinning powers was a totally cool (and unexpected!) development. He's really a great example of the wonderful characters they have in the show.

Miyazaki: One of my favorite anime directors. Spirited Away was one of the anime that got me back into the fandom after years of having been disinterested (Fullmetal Alchemist was the other one, with Princess Tutu being the final nail in the coffin). He's got some really beautiful animation and strong stories in his work (although some are stronger than others), and it's really interesting to track some of the recurring themes in them, like flying and strong female characters. Is he overrated? Probably, as many things that are popular are, but I still think he deserves at least some of the attention and acclaim. (Now if only some OTHER anime directors could get the same attention!)

Greg Ayres: One of my favorite anime voice actors. He's often one of the strongest performances in series he's in, he's got an incredible range of voices (which he doesn't always fall back on, but--I would have never guessed Satoshi from DNAngel and Hideki from Nerima Daikon Brothers were the same actor if I didn't know who he was), and to top it off he was an anime fanboy FIRST. (And a SUB ELITIST, to top it off! XD) It's nice to see someone with Greg's amount of talent that truly is passionate about what he's doing...and he's just a genuinely nice guy, too. I can't always say that about all con guests (although I think I could about the majority, at least). I'm really hoping he's in the Ouran dub somewhere--he'd be great as one of the twins.

Ramble ramble ramble~.

Also, the movie quotes meme still has a few quotes unguessed if anyone wants to take a crack at them. I'll probably post the answers to those tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

(Yes, I know, I've been a posting fiend lately. XD; yeesh.)
