No, not an art sketch, a little writing drabble.
I'm planning on making a fuller con post (at least part of one) later on tonight or tomorrow, but for now, I thought I'd post this little Uhrmacher drabble I wrote at NanDesuKan's "Writer Slumber Party" panel. The challenge was to write a one-page scene that shows the character's personality rather than telling it. I decided to try it with Uhrmacher, but it ended up being about Autor as much as his father. The people leading the panel seemed to be pretty into it (which I was pleased by, since they both appeared to be good writers and one even teaches English). It's pretty short since I was using a small-ish journal and I write large, but I thought it might be interesting anyway. (And I feel empty when I don't post a writing thing after too long. XD;;)

Uhrmacher sifted through book after book, driven forward by distant memories of a story from his childhood. He was so involved in his research that he didn't hear his won enter the room.
"It's nearly dinner time," the boy said, peeking over the wall of books that separated him from his father. "Are you almost done?"
He looked up over his glasses at Autor, turning a page. "Not yet. Soon."
The boy opened his mouth to ask another question, but his father bent his head to read again. He hesitated for a moment, then walked away, leaving the dark-haired man alone.

It's always funny hearing what other writers say about my work--one of the leaders of the panel asked the others "Who do you think is the main character? The man, or the boy? Or is it the books?"
He also said that he had a feeling that Autor would some day save his Father from his unhealthy obsession, which wasn't totally correct, but in a way he does save his father's legacy, so I was impressed that he figured that out nonetheless.
