One of my best friends is having her first child in just a little over a month! When I found out she was pregnant, I was really excited for a couple of reasons.
1. I'm a big fan of babies - and I'm really excited to get to love on their sweet Mr. Eko (the "name" for the baby until he's born - a tribute to a LOST character.)
2. A reason to throw a baby shower! I loooove planning parties and showers - even more when it honors someone that I love.
I started way in advance researching different themes, foods and games for the shower. Then I took a breath and sat down with another hostess and we started to discuss things realistically. Our key phrase became, "keep it simple". What we ended up with was perfect.
The theme of Mr. Eko's nursery is rock and roll, so we incorporated that in a couple of ways, as well as adding other details that reflect the interests of the parents. For example, we used chalkboards as menu boards as a salute to Larissa's job (teacher) and Harry Potter books as "platforms" for the cupcake stands. Nathan and Larissa are HUGE Harry Potter fans, so it was a fun tribute to them. One detail that I'm particularly fond of is the glass baby bottle vases - so much that I've left them up in my house with fresh flowers since the shower.
