So I made the finals at the Providence College debate tournament this weekend, marking only the 3rd time in my career that i've been in a final. anyway, my partner, who was from Brandeis, and I made it there running only cases about religion, God, and love. Examples include: You are God. Should you destroy the Tower of Babel?, You are God. Do you create Hell? Is it better to love or be loved? Should a monotheistic religion include prayer? and my favorite, a draft case about God. A draft case is one where you present different options, and then both teams get to pick a couple each. We suggested 6 qualities of God, omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, anthromorphic personification, mercy and justice, and ended up getting to construct our conception of God with omnipotence, mercy, and anthromorphic personification. That was a fun round, mostly because the other team failed to pick up on the fact that the most important aspect to pick was clearly omnipotence and wasted their first pick on omniscience. It was a weird weekend for me, and was even weirded because my partner had to leave before the final, meaning that we essentially conceded the round. instead of not having a round, I ended up debating on my own in the final, a novel experience, but hopefully one I won't have to repeat again. Anyway, it was a good time, albeit one which won't be repeated. I prefer cases about social policy, politics, and other such 'boring' topics to ones about God. :)
Spring break is here, and I'm off to Washington DC tomorrow. Hopefully that goes well. :D
