*Something* Drops Keep Fallin'...

My roommate once called Korea the “Land of Umbrellas.”  The longer I stay here the more I tend to agree; however, an ongoing series of events have inspired me to somewhat amend his original statement and re-dub Korea “The Land that EATS Umbrellas.”  (Dun-duh-duuuhn ::lightening sounds in distance::)

Over the duration of my stay in Korea I’ve lost 3 umbrellas, having lost one most recently this past Saturday while visiting the relics of the Silla dynasty’s capital at Gyeongju.  (Overall, the excursion to Geyongju was fun.  Pictures pending.)  Whatever method Korea uses to cloud my judgment I have yet to discover.  I simply put my umbrellas down and never pick them up.

Maybe I’m taking things too easy; I’m not sure.  The only thing I am sure of is that I no longer possess a green and tan Garvin Gardens umbrella.  I cry on the inside - on the INSIDE!

On a more inspiring note, here are some crazy pictures I took while hiking Mt. Dobong (Dobongsan), a mountain slightly north of Seoul.  Just in case you find yourself wondering why our good friends the trees still have their leaves, I should mention this herculean labor was undertaken on October 9th.  (Those were balmier times.  Such is the case no more. In my opinion winter began today.  It’s f’n cold here!):

Dobongsan, 2, 3, Lunchtime5, 6, 7, 8, Now with Helicopter!, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and Favorite.

While I’m at it, here are some pictures I took at the Bongun Temple (Bongunsa) sometime inbetween late August and early September.  The first one is my favorite because I think it juxtaposes the old and the new -- the temple with the Korean World Trade Center (COEX) -- very nicely:

Roofs, Buddhalicious and Lanterns.
