Countdown to path final: 34 days and counting...
Been on a transplant rota shift yesterday again; got called up for a midnight start, liver arrived at around 1am, transplant started at 2.45am... The patient was 26, had had a transplant in the past for a rare genetic condition, then it got rejected, so she was having a last-ditch life-saving attempt with a second transplant. Pretty fun night, considering the diffiulty in extracting the rejected liver because of all the adhesions, the fact that they tore the diaphragm and the vena cava (= blood bath) and that, once the new liver was in, hte patient started bleeding uncontrollably and had to be taken to ITU to recover with an open belly. I got off at 1.30pm, but they were still going - they were going to try to see if they could close her up at all or whether to just let her recover on ITU before messing with her insides again.
Erm, yeah - so I ended up with a severely disrupted internal clock after that and pretty much missed out on a day :p On a day of path revision!! And they also kindly informed us that the exams will start on 17th Feb, not 20th Feb, as they had us believe before. Nice. They just took 3 days' revision away from me. :o
Better run read some clever books....
