Are you ready to see the depths of my linguistic geekdom and the extent of my procrastination? Prepare yourselves, because this is ( THE SUJU NAMES POST! )
*raises hand and waves it madly* 8DDD so is there a reason the 'h' appears to be completely unvocalized/dropped in several cases? this puzzles me and I took notes through about half a Korean textbook yesterday and the day before
*calls on you* There is! When /h/ is syllable-initial and there is a coda in the syllable before it (coda being a consonant after the vowel/vowel cluster), then the coda replaces the /h/. If the coda is /k/, /p/, /t/ or /ch/, it becomes aspirated. *runs off to double check, but is pretty sure that's what the rule comes to*
Yeah, I can't seem to find an interwebz page that explains it, but I'm pretty sure I'm not making things up. XD Ooh, also, syllable-final ㅅ + syllable-initial ㅎ = ㅌ.
