greetings from the working world. at one of my jobs (where i am at the moment), the only bathroom on the floor is a men's. there's a women's bathroom on the next floor. as all the bathrooms in this building are just stalls, no urinals, and i had been in the men's before (though no one else was in it), i figured, i don't feel like walking up a flight of stairs, i'll just use the bathroom across the hall. i walked in and a man was washing his hands at the sink and seemed surprised to see me. i said i didn't feel like walking up the stairs; do you mind if i use the bathroom? he got very flustered and made murmurings of how it was the men's bathroom... men's bathroom... mumble mumble. i said, ok... i can go upstairs... and he said uhhh i'll wait outside if you want to use the bathroom... and i said no, really, it's ok, i'll go upstairs.

now, why did i need his permission to use the bathroom? everyone poops and pees, dammit. it was just very amusing that he had such a problem with me using the bathroom. there's maybe one or two men on this floor, and after telling my boss (a woman) this funny story, she said that we should put a sign up that says men/women interchangeably. why should the ladies have to go upstairs to pee?

fight the power.
