plus, interviews with don carlo and alvaro about the upcoming match:
Ancelotti
Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media in the press room at Anfield a day ahead of the match against Liverpool. The Whites' coach, who revealed that "Arbeloa will play", analysed his side's third match in Champions League Group B: "It's strange that there haven't been more meetings between Real Madrid and Liverpool. Tomorrow we'll see everything that can be said about a good match: two great teams playing really good football, and a spectacular and very dynamic match that we'll try to win. Playing at Anfield is always special, above all with the atmosphere that we're going to see tomorrow."
“The philosophy of our play isn't going to change and less so against a competitive team that's really strong at home. The idea is to control the match with our quality. We're here and it would be strange to be thinking about the match on Saturday. Liverpool are a team with a lot of dynamism that's really good on the transitions between defence and attack. That's what I'm most worried about."
Players out
“Ramos is training to be available for El Clásico. Bale picked up an injury taking a shot on Friday and we'll see how his recovery goes. He isn't available for this match or for Saturday. He travelled to Valencia because it seemed like an overload, but afterwards this showed up when he had a scan. Coentrão isn't available."
“We have the possibility of using players in different positions and that helps when replacing important players. Isco and James played very well in Valencia."
Cristiano Ronaldo
“He is in great form and it's impossible to do better than he's doing. He focuses really well for the big games and he has to keep going as he is."
Balotelli
“I know him really well. He is a quality player and we have to be on our guard against him. He is young and he is out to do well for this team. When a player arrives in a new atmosphere you have to be patient with him. He has the quality to compete at the top level."
Comparisons with Paisley
“It's an honour and a source of pride that I'm compared with someone of so much experience.”
source Arbeloa
Alvaro Arbeloa spoke to the press just over 24 hours before Real Madrid take on Liverpool in their third Champions League group B match. The Whites' defender discussed the game against his old team: “The atmosphere is going to be incredible and they need to win. It will be difficult and we'll have to work hard at times. It will be a different match and I know what Liverpool are capable of on nights like this. They need the points more than us and it will be a great battle. We're ready for a complicated match”.
“I've mainly warned them about the atmosphere we'll find there. Not a hostile atmosphere but because they really support their players and it's special for them to play against Real Madrid after five years out of the Champions League. Even Cristiano Ronaldo has said that it's the most difficult ground in the Premier League. If Liverpool had lost 10-0 on Sunday I would be just as worried”.
His return to Anfield
“I'm very happy about returning to play at Anfield. It's difficult to compare the last match between the two teams in the Champions League because Liverpool have changed almost the whole team. If I'm not mistaken, only Skrtel, Lucas Leiva and Gerrard are still there from that match. Real Madrid have changed too”.
“What's happening with Cristiano is incredible. If you'd have asked him a few years ago he wouldn't have believed the records he's breaking and his stats either. He is important to us and we are delighted with that. The confidence he has in himself is incredible. He just keeps getting better”.
The atmosphere at Anfield
“These things are difficult to explain and easier to absorb. On big nights in the Champions League you can experience that special atmosphere and hear the people. They sound different and any football lover should experience that at least once in their life. To be able to enjoy this is special. Tomorrow they will understand what it means to go down those steps and play a match here. Once it starts the important thing is to win all three points and that's what we've come here to do”.
The bumpy landing in Liverpool
“It wasn't so bad. Anfield is scarier. The storm is nothing more than an anecdote. The atmosphere will be against us and we have to focus because we want to get all three points in this legendary stadium”.
James and Chicharito
“They are adapting very well. Chicharito is scoring goals and James, in addition to his quality, is doing an extraordinary job of being part of the team effort. They are two great signings and I'm sure the boss is happy with them both”.
