community discussion: the future of match spams!

so lately there's been a pretty marked decline in the number of people participating in match spams. i know that some of that is just due to livejournal in general being less active these days, but i've also seen a bunch of comments of people who would have wanted to participate, but didn't know there was a match happening then. it's definitely happened to me at least once, and it seems like a real shame.

to that end, i thought we could have a community discussion on how to make sure that everyone knows the match schedule and when match spams are happening. i put together a poll, which includes a few possible reminder strategies.... but i'm sure you guys have other ideas! i'd love it if we could get a good discussion going in the comments here.

revitalizing the match spams is really important to me, because i think they're such an integral part of the hala_madrid experience, but i'd also love to have a general conversation about things that we can do to keep the community going strong and even try to attract new members. but maybe we should save that for another post.
