Sergio Ramos pushes himself to the limit

From the stretcher and the gym to the pitch. That's been Sergio Ramos' day-to-day life during the last two weeks. He only puts his boots on to play matches.

What was initially a simple lower back strain, has become an intense pain, forcing him to grit his teeth in order to play against Celta, Borussia de Dortmund, Mallorca and Zaragoza. If it weren't for his will power and the medical treatment he's undergoing, the Spaniard would be in the infirmary. What he isn't doing is training with the rest of the squad.

Sergio Ramos is pushing himself to the limit, putting up with pain that would leave another player out of action. At the club they say that his pain threshold is 10 times greater than the other players and under normal circumstances, the pain he's feeling, would force him to rest 15 days to recover fully.

On Saturday, just hours before kick-off against Zaragoza, Mourinho even thought about leaving him on the bench to avoid exposing him to further suffering. The manager wasn't sure whether to start him. Thinking about the upcoming game against Borussia Dortmund, the ideal solution would have been to rest him so that he's more match fit for that game, in which the team will be competing for top spot in its Champions League group. Again he made the starting XI.

Ramos hasn't trained with his teammates for 12 days. But there he is. He's played every game - except the one against Alcoyano - since he got injured whilst playing for Spain against Belarus. He always says the same thing: "I'm playing".

marca has it.
