Where's the effing right back???? Ibrahimovic, Modric, Leon, Drenthe, Gago, Sahin: Transfer Rumours

Zlatan "I own an island, bitch" Ibrahimovic

Oh please God, please

This unspeakably gorgeous troll player has been linked with us in the past, of course. The rumours keep several journalists clothed and fed and one can normally count on an ¿Ibrahimovic al Madrid? article about once a week even when transfer season is not on.

Rumours this week in trash online publications are based on four things: Milan needs money, his agent has been openly spreading rumours, and Mourinho has been "texting" the player over the past few weeks. Also: Ibra's loltastic autobiography details his desire to come to Madrid. *

Now this is hardly anything to base a rumour on is it? Milan are permanently cash-strapped, his agent is a real piece of work, and Mourinho texts or emails nearly all of his old players on a regular basis. As for wanting to come - who knows?

Is it likely? No. Has it been reported in a single reputable newspaper? Certainly not!

But damn it all! It would be glorious!!!

Luka Modric

The rumours of Modric coming to Madrid have been around since last season, but they are becoming extremely pervasive over the past week and the rumour has been a steady one in the news in England and Spain.

What follows is a summation of the rumours.

Modric has agreed to personal terms according to several articles in the Daily Mail. Here's a link to one; the page will take you to other links of their articles on this subject over the past month.

Normally a "story" printed in the Daily Mail would be of limited interest to anyone - even though the newspaper has been steadfast in peddling this rumour. But today Madrid supposedly offered Nuri Sahin in a cash + player deal according to As

Sahin has refused to go however, so according to another report Tottenham are now demanding Gonzalo Higuain or Ricardo Carvalho instead.

So how much is he if he'd come? News reports are varying on this one. Some are quoting amounts of up to 40 million - which would explain the eagerness to let Sahin go in a cash + player deal.  Those of you remembering a 25-30 million pitch being made for Bastian Schweinsteiger of Bayern Munich in January 2011, or that transfer estimates for Sami Khedira hover around 18 million Euros whenever he's being linked with Manchester City, Chelsea or Bayern may be amazed by this figure.

Modric will probably sell for less wherever he goes (though probably for too much either way) but his current valuation is based on two things. He plays in England (the same week we got Ozil for 15 million, James Milner went to Manchester City for exactly double. And who would you rather have?) and his value to the club that has him under contract at the moment inflates the price as well.

Nuri Sahin

Good God, eh? See above.

Also: Bayern supposedly want him. That rumour is no longer so pervasive, but it was interesting while it lasted. Bayern are like Madrid in this respect: if they want a player they usually get him. And they certainly have the money.

Pedro Leon

Our quasi-violent, go-for-the-Achilles-heel-of-your-teammate-in-practice, marvellously hot-headed player of the incredible mane of hair is going to be loaned out again to Getafe in the afternoon's most shocking piece of news.

Royston Drenthe

He's still ours! And judging from interviews he's done over the past year he NEVER wants to come back!

And apparently, he's in trouble with the Everton management so he may be clubless. He was not called up for their FA Cup semi-final after showing up late for practice. Details are vague. Everton fans in-the-know are invited to shed light on this.

Fernando Gago

Still ours and still not worth 7 million to Roma who have sent him back to Madrid.

His contract runs until 2013 and the pre-season starts in precisely 11 days. Will he wait out his contract? Will he try to find another club? Are we sending him to Tottenham now that Sahin has refused to go? Who knows!

I'd link you to an article to shed light on this, but in the Spanish, English and German news services the reports about where he might end up are entirely conflicting, with no two reports coming to the same conclusion.

The Much Awaited Right Back...

...has not yet emerged...

Do you suppose the club remembers we probably need to sign a good defender this season to fix up our problems on the right side of defence? We'll find out, won't we?
