[Each day that passes feels like a loss. Alf's mood has been plummeting ever since the series of events which have left him with a growing regret. It's largely his own doing, he's realized, but it's difficult to shake off the feelings. And with the added news of an acquaintance's friend's death, he knows he should at least seek . . . a distraction ( Read more... )

... You're going to get sick. [She was on her daily stroll when she noticed him crouched by the lake. Slightly tipping over her umbrella so that it covered him as well, looking over rather worriedly.]

[He opens his eyes when he notices the lack of raindrops falling on him; craning his head up, he rises and turns to face the girl once he notices the umbrella.]

. . . Oh -- thank you. For your concern and this.

[And he sounds a tad apologetic for it.]

It's no problem at all. [She smiles softly at first, but furrows her brow not too soon after.] [...] What are you doing out here?

[He offers a small smile and gestures to the lake behind him.]

I'm trying to reconnect with Sona, the filial spirit of water. I haven't communicated with her in a while, so I thought I should salvage what little bond remains . . .

Filial spirits...? Oh! [She's read about them, but she didn't know much about them in all honesty. At the next thought, she'll puff out her cheeks.] You should've dressed for the weather, at the very least.

You're right, I should have.

[That much he confesses with no resistance. He does issue forth an explanation as to why he didn't.]

Since it's water and I'm reaching out to Sona once more, I believed it was fitting.

I guess holding an umbrella would've been pretty inconvenient, huh? Perhaps a raincoat, or something along the lines. [...] [--!] Ah! I didn't disturb anything, did I?

[He nods along, until he shakes his head at the last bit.]

Oh, no. Even if you did, you would have been doing it for my sake. [ . . . ] For that, I thank you.

That's a relief! [There's a pause before she motions over to his side and squats down next to him, still trying to shield the both of them from the rain at the same time.] Are you done?

[From his position, he nods.]

More or less. I managed to contact her again, at the least. [A pause.] Shall we get back? I wouldn't want to keep you out here like this any longer . . .

You should be more worried about yourself! I'm not the one dripping wet, silly. We should really get you dried up...

Haha . . . I'll be fine. If it helps to relieve your concerns, I'll head back now.

Would you at least take my umbrella? I'll be fine since I'm wearing a raincoat, and you don't have to worry about returning it.

[Notification, why did you not come. /shakes fist at]

[His protest is near immediate.]

I couldn't! It's yours, and you brought it to keep yourself dry. Even if you're wearing a raincoat, it would be wrong of me to take it.

[Pfft, I hate it when that happens to me, hnngh. It's fine!]

... I insist! I just found it at the item store a couple days ago, so it doesn't hold any real sentimental value, it's okay! I'll be fine, and I'd worry a lot less if you would just take it, all right? [... she will not take no for an answer. Two can play at this game.]

[Oh, the persistence. While he wants to argue against it more, he doesn't want to make things worse. So he nods weakly, a wry smile on his face.]

. . . All right. I'll take it. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you.
