What's the name of that theory? / Surprising News

There's a psychological theory where once you learn a new concept, you suddenly see it "everywhere" for a while. Like maybe you learn a new word, and suddenly you notice it twice a day for the next week and wonder why it's "suddenly" so common. I can't remember the name, though.

Anyways, it seems like tons of people are transitioning or announcing new gender identities. Some don't surprise me, others are a bit unexpected - but only in the sense that I haven't followed them, so it's simply the news that seems sudden.

One "unexpected" transition is the filksinger Alexander James Adams, formerly Heather Alexander. The second track on his new band's MySpace page has a recording of what he sounds like post-transition. I can't wait to hear "March of Cambreadth" now. His voice has always been powerful, and now... Whoo. :) He has released a transition CD, where he recorded half the vocal tracks in his pre-T voice, and then went back and sang the other half as he sounds now. I may have to find this CD.

I've never followed him, aside from enjoying my collection of Heather Alexander music, so I have no reason to be surprised except from the novelty of the news. I just am slow to like surprises, but this one's already got me excited to find Alexander's music now. Best of luck to him!
