Let me explain something to you, Mike Huckabee. Most of the poor are not waiting to be rescued. They simply recognize that there is something fundamentally fucked up about a system in which CEOs of failing companies are rewarded with ginormous bonuses, while people working 2,3,4 jobs have to put groceries and gas on a credit card to get by week to week.
You know what I believe? I believe if there are people starving in the world and you don't even know how many houses you own, that maybe you should just shut your damn trap about the poor. Fuck you, John McCain and your pathetic attempt to get the female vote/Sarah Palin.
I don't WANT to be rich. I like having a job that makes me feel as if I'm doing something better. I AM better. I don't make my living wringing every last cent out of people who can ill afford it. I care for the developmentally disabled relatives of wealthy people (some of them, anyway) so they don't have to worry about them. Is that worth so little? To George Bush, it is. The developmentally disabled don't generate income. Screw them.
I'm married to a man who would, and has, given a ride to a homeless man in the dead of winter, taken him to a shelter, given him the $20 in his pocket, thought nothing of it. There are those who talk about helping people, and those who just do.
No, I don't want money from Washington, you stupid fucking moron. I want Washington to tell the credit card companies that no, you can't all raise this customer's interest rate to what amounts to usury because she was late on this one bill that one time. How is that OK????!!!!!!!! I'd rather you give people who need it more affordable health care than waste billions in Iraq. Not to mention the human cost of that travesty.
Eli and I wear clothes until they are threadbare. We do not have TV (save for PBS), video games, or even a stove with more than 2 working burners. I'm fine with all of that. Yes, we've made mistakes, who hasn't? Ours just happen to be of the financial variety. We should suffer, and our kid should suffer, for the rest of our goddamn lives? It shouldn't be so damn near impossible to dig oneself out of a hole. Yes Carrie, you should work two jobs for the rest of your life with no hope of any sort of retirement, you chose poverty. That is what my dad would say. That is what my dad has said.
I hear people talking about if they won the lottery they'd give such and such to charity, blah, blah, blah. And maybe they would. I KNOW I would, because no one needs 100 million dollars. No one needs 10 million dollars. NO ONE.
