my memory often returns to you fede, my friend of the now-wasteland livejournal, magus, genius, fading companion of spirit and mind, and if you count the wine we toasted and drank in absentia, or the coffee you once bought for me, and one pair of lips we have both kissed, of body also. I think of your words at strange times, watching the apartment on television, walking up and down in china, and they are like legends, written on the cavern walls of my memory. I miss you.

in march, the ten-year anniversary of my visit to italy will have come. so, I will visit italy then, and europe, generally, but personally. I will, I hope, find you there.

In the meantime, there is always a place for you in montreal, where I am now.

In china I was waiting for a student to visit my apartment. as always I was looking at a translator on the internet. as I looked, I thought of a word you taught me, and my favourite word in italian, n'occhiata. and I made a search, for english into italian, of the word faith. suddenly your name like a spring in a dense forest brightened my eyes. I knew this was a pivotal moment, and to tell you would take great time and thought; now I have. my friend. as always I miss the embrace I long to give you tonight. one day soon. ciao ciao.
