It's pretty screwy. All of these things are in the mormon doctrine, yet most mormons aren't even aware because the church tries to cover it all up. I was mormon for 13 years and didn't know about any of it.

Yeah, and I've been in the church for two years, and I've learned something about every last part of that. Actually, all of that stuff listed above was in a book that some guy wrote.. I forgot his name, but a missionary that went to my branch once wrote a rebuttal where he was able to disprove all of that. And also, with the archeological evidence.. I beg to differ. There are books upon books upon books that archeologically support things said by the BOM, and guess what? Half of the authors of those books aren't even Mormon.

But of course, all of the stuff this person has said has got to be true. Of course it is! She said it on the internet, so it's got to be true! No body lies on the internet!

You say that, yet you have no proof. I have cited all my sources and you have given none.

My subject title was "why I'm not mormon," not "why you idiots shouldn't be mormon." My own father is mormon, for crying out loud! I have nothing against them and I'm not trying to 'attack' your religion, I'm simply letting people know that there is a reason why I left the mormon church. (Intended for people I know, you obviously not being one of them.)

By the way, I was a practicing mormon for 13 years and I didn't know about any of what I have stated in this entry until after I left the mormon church. Maybe I didn't pay as much attention in Sunday school?

I am really interested to know your credible source of what archeological evidence there is to back up the claims of the mormon church. You claim there are "books upon books" so...can't you at least give me one?

This stuff is not a surprise, nor is it anything original or "covered up." Five of the six things you mentioned are widely known among members of the church. They aren't widely discussed, but the BoM is a religious text, not an archaeological handbook. There's no reason a Sunday School lesson should focus on moon men or life on Kolob - this stuff is not essential to your exaltation. I don't know where you were a member or who you talked to, but this stuff is pretty common knowledge in my area.

I find it hard to believe you were LDS for 13 years and never heard Brigham Young's statement, "Man is as God once was; God is as man may be." You could not have been active for 13 years without being aware of your 5th point, just for starters.

I gave a little clearer response to someone who is trying to build her own faith here, FWIW.

What's the difference between being murdered and being martyred, anyway?

Please do not come into my journal and imply that I am a liar. Of course I was a mormon for 13 years. People who have known me all my life read this journal so there is really no reason to lie.

Being martyred means suicide or intentional death. The way Joseph Smith was murdered, it is highly unlikely that it was intentional, and there's really no way to know, so mormonism is making an assumption with the martyred claim. (Though of course, they act like it is fact.)

to be martyred you must die for your faith. ie, during the Spanish Inquisition, they asked Catholics to renounce their faith or die. Those who didn't and died are martyrs.

I don't think Joseph Smith died because the mob didn't like his cologne.
