Slow Cooker for New Zero Kanada

Hey all, it's been awhile since I rapped at ya, but I been real busy.

Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn died on Monday at the age of 54. A great ball player and an even a better person. There's not much that I can say about him that hasn't already been said better elsewhere, but here are a few links that I've come across the last few days that demonstrate what a special man he was:

- He pioneered the use of video as a tool to help him refine his hitting technique and learn pitchers' tendencies.

- Talking to Ted Williams (Ted fucking Williams!) about hitting.

- A detailed account of the 1991 San Diego Padres bat boy discussing his time spent with the team. (This one is particularly moving.)

- This Baseball Card Vandals tribute, with an insane statistic:

In 323 at-bats against Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Pedro Martinez and Greg Maddux, Tony Gwynn struck out a total of 3 times.

Related: Back in October of 2007, Zak and I went on a road trip out to Baltimore, Maryland, and Cooperstown, New York. Cooperstown wasn't necessarily on the way back home from Baltimore, but I had never been to the Baseball Hall of Fame before and I was particularly excited to be going in the same year that Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn were accepted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Around this time I decided to make more of an effort to start seeing different professional baseball stadiums whenever I could and to collect a pennant (and often a hat) as well. While in the gift shop, I saw a Hall of Fame pennant that included players' names on it. I debated with myself over whether or not I really needed a pennant because I wasn't actually at a Major League Baseball stadium, but I ultimately decided to get it because A. It was the goddamn Baseball Hall of Fame, and B. It had the names of two baseball players that I really liked a lot growing up. In addition to Ken Griffey, Jr., Ripken and Gwynn were two of my favorite non-Cleveland baseball players growing up. Here's a picture of the pennant that I found on eBay (currently going for $26!):

I have not hung any of my baseball pennants up in my house due to a lack of wall space, but I think I will find a spot for that pennant tomorrow.

Live responsibly and lovingly. Be positive and creative. You're beautiful. Peace.

Yours, etc.,
<3dane
