During - we braided her hair with ribbons in four way plaits as a foundation.
After
We are still experimenting with ways of making foam hair more durable. Problems with our first attempt included the knots and bands holding the foam in place snapping over time, and the glue holding together the lengths of foam [in order to have strips longer than A3] coming appart. This time we stitched lengths of foam down the length of the braids, sewing over the glued joins where possible. Then wide ribbons were latch-hooked through the roots. In places the ribbons were also used to tie additional lengths of foam into the hair for added height and volume.
Unfortunately we ran out of time, and when we took these pictures the ends of each length of foam were still blunt - they will be cut into points to give a neater finish, both for length and to echo the points of the loose ribbons.
Materials used : 30 m ribbon for braids, 8 - 10 A3 sheets of craft foam, 50 m wide ribbons [loose]
