015. Marriage - For bloodinmyearhailtheboykingMay 18 2010, 05:56:48 UTC
The last time Sam had thought about marriage was at least five or six years ago. He had been living with Jess for awhile then, and despite their ups and downs, they stayed strong. Much to the annoyance of others sometimes, they did hold a genuine affection for one another, one they weren't afraid to display at times. But there had been a point, a few months before Dean had shown back up, that he had thought about it. It wasn't something he'd be able to go through immediately with, of course he'd have to pass his bar exams and get into a decent firm. If he could manage that, well, he'd be all set, it was just years away and it killed him that he couldn't give her the happiness she deserved just yet. And he worked harder, he studied his ass off, made sure that he was going to pass those exams and get into law school.
And then Dean showed up.
Not that it was a bad thing, no, never but...hunting was not where his life was. And bringing it back brought the end to any thoughts of a normal life - any thoughts of marriage. Jess was killed right in front of him, set aflame by the same demon that killed their mother. There was nothing to do but to move to hunting, and moving into that job only lost him his brother and dad. And now, after the deal of a lifetime, he had managed to bring Dean back and things were going his way for once.
So as he watched Ruby start to prepare for a hunt, that word, that very thought that he assumed was buried with Jess, came to mind. And he smiled. There were questions in the back of his mind of course, like whether or not a demon could really be wed in holy matrimony or what Dean was going to do once he found out (pretty sure it'd be murdering him.) But he didn't really care. He was going to be happy.
"Sam. Earth to Sam? Hey, you alive over there?"
He was knocked out of his daydream, chuckling nervously at Ruby. "Yeah, um, sorry. Just thinking."
"Thinking?" She raised an eyebrow, obviously searching for some sort of answer to the question. Sam just smiled though, shaking his head.
"Yeah, just on some things. Not important right now. Ready?"
She paused for a moment, unsure if she wanted to let it go before nodding, grabbing the keys off the dresser. "I'll wait in the car."
Sam sat there, watching her leave before he sighed. Again, it was a long way off. But he'd fight for it again, do everything he could to put that tiny little word into action. Marriage. He smiled at the thought, picking up a few things before he walked out to the car, with someone he was thinking about spending the rest of his life with. Only this time? He promised himself that he would not wait as he did with Jess. It was the end of the world, after all, and even if it was at his hands, he'd make sure she was happy throughout all of this. She'd be happy.

They'd be happy.
