On the Webslinger and archery

I think every actor should, at minimum, be able to cry at will. I realized that while I was watching The Amazing Spider-man. There were several scenes where Peter was very emotional and I think Andrew Garfield pulled those off very well. Not only was he able to cry at will, he seemed to be able to control his tears. I mean he was able to actually regulate the volume at which they flowed from his eyes. You could see them well up or flow freely, depending on the situation he was in. I was impressed.

The rest of the film was awesome. I liked the writing and the storyline. I heard that some people thought it was too serious but I disagree. In my opinion, Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker was spot on. The turn of events was just right and I didn't feel the drag that others seem to have experienced. Props to the casting director too. Martin Sheen and Sally Field were convincing in their roles, Emma Stone could not have been more charming and Rhys Ifans makes a great reptillian villain. I am drawn to charcaters who struggle with inner conflicts.

Have you watched The Amazing Spider-man? No? Well you should.

I am so grateful for my education. I was taught manners, I was forced to practice debate and public speaking, I was made to read novels and poetry. I was learned how to embroider and measure sugar. While I don't remember everything in school, I'm glad that I had obtained certain skills. The most important of which is how to speak in front of people. It's not something I'm entirely comfortable with, but I can manage if I have to. And recently, I found that I have to.

I am archer, an archer am I,
I focus on the target with my dominant eye.
I draw back the bowstring, bring my hand to my chin
I release and my arrow flies as fast as the wind
I miss my mark by inches, I let out a sigh
I'm a beginner, a beginner am I.

I tried my hand at archery last Saturday at the Gandiva Cafe and Archery Range. It is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had. I am by no means an expert, but I do know that I'm very drawn to this sport. The bow and the gun both give me a feeling of bad-assery, but there is something more elegant and romantic about the bow. I want to be good at this much more than I wanted to be good at shooting. It would also probably be easier to procure my own bow and arrows than it is to get licensed and own a gun.

During one of my draws, the instructor told me to keep my chin up. I did that it made a big difference. My shots landed closer to the the target. So remember that: keep your chin up when you aim for something. (Yes, we're not just talking about archery anymore.)

A moment of silence please for Dolphy, the King of Comedy, who passed away last evening.

Thank you for the laughter, sir. We will never forget you. May you rest in peace.
