The Death Cab for Cutie Concert

Mar 06, 2012 19:06

On March 5, 2012, the band Death Cab from Cutie from Bellingham, Washington came to Manila to perform for the very first time. I was one of the happy folks who went out and watched them. My happiness lingers still.

The concert was sublime. Yeah, that's the first description that came to mind. DCFC's music is awesome and overwhelming and the depth of their lyrics is good for the mind.

The part I loved the most came after the song We Looked Like Giants when Ben Gibbard put down his guitar and took on the drums. That was three or four minutes of pure awesomeness. Listening to the crash of drums and the fierce guitars cost me my sense of hearing but I tell you, I pay it gladly. I have never heard nor seen anything like it. I was sure I could cross "witness something magnificent" off my bucket list. Such talent!

They played my favorites, of course, What Sarah Said and I Will Follow You Into the Dark. They threw in Transatlanticism in the encore. My week is made. The concert is, to date, the highlight of my year. Yes, it was that good.

I am so glad they decided to visit Manila. I will see them again.

Here's a video from the scene last night. (From YouTube by a user called csubi8)
