Her name is Sarah Kay and she is a poet. Listen to her speak. Hear the quiver in her voice, the earnestness, the rise and fall of her tone. Notice her eyes, they look excited and quizzical and glassy. Watch her movement, where she turns her head and how she waves her hands.

I have not heard of the term "spoken word poetry" until I watched this TED talk. I just thought of them as poetry readings or recitals. She showed me that it was much more than that. There's so much depth and openness. Not everyone is comfortable opening up, but what she's saying, at least to me, is that everyone is capable and spoken word poetry is one way to do it.

I wish I could speak like her. The coherence of her thoughts is amazing, her delivery is exceptional and let's face it, anyone who can stand up in front of a crowd to speak has got to be brave.
