I'm finished with Twilight.
While it's easy to see why so many girls are smitten by Edward Cullen, I feel that the author had not effectively conveyed the danger that he represents. He's charming, I'll give him that much, but I thought that malevolence would have a part in that.
On Bella Swan, if Edward wonders so much why she fascinates him, then so do I, possibly even more so. He said that he's never met anyone like her and I agree --I've never met such a dead bore in my life. In my opinion, she's only able to draw interest when she's with Edward. By herself, there doesn't seem to be a lot to recommend her.
I didn't find the great love story that other readers have raved about. Edward and Bella have said it many times, but I sure didn't see it. Up until the last chapter, I felt that Bella seemed to focus more Edward's appearance than anything else. His eyes are golden, his skin is icy marble, his voice is either musical, enchanting or velvety. We've established that he's hot, can we please move on? Meanwhile, Edward might still be confusing his hunger for Bella's blood for affection. Perhaps there will be some character development in the following books, but I'm not so inclined to read the rest of the series.
I do find Alice Cullen an interesting character, though. I think she's the most dynamic of the lot.
Hmm, perhaps the movie is better?
