Green means go.

Quezon City has deployed e-Jeepneys.

One of our nations biggest weaknesses is the lack of a proper mass transportation system. I envy the sophistication of the railway network of Japan and Hong Kong. All the stations and the trains were designed with the passenger in mind. What is the most convenient way to pay fares? What can be done to make waiting comfortable? How should the queues be managed? All this has been put into consideration and it resulted in the the most seamless, effortless way to commute.

Zoom in to Metro Manila. The MRT and LRT are always crowded. Long queues, packed platforms, packed trains. How about jeepneys? They stop where they want, go whenever they want. They cause traffic, they endanger passengers, pedestrians and other motorists. Buses? They're like jeepneys, only bigger. It's frustrating to see these PUVs block intersections and box out other cars, box out each other. It's like one huge competition out there. A competition where everyone loses.

These E-Jeepneys in Quezon City give me some hope. Authorities have devised other ways to alleviate traffic but none of them have worked. I hope this project is different. I hope that it's the start of better things. In order for this to work, everyone has to get on board (no pun intended). Discipline is the key. Follow the rules. See that overpass? Use it. See yellow box? Stay off it. Speed limit? Stay within it. Basic manners will already address most of our problems.

We have a long way to go and I'm through thinking that things will get better in my lifetime. But when someone comes up with an idea that works, I am ready to do my part.
