We're all just perfect strangers

Today I had my first series of volunteer interviews. They went fairly well. I shifted my location to Starbucks after a while and realized Starbucks sucks ass and didn't have wireless (unless I'm just stupid, but it seemed like you had to pay) so I couldn't get work done. It reminded me of the Chile days where the gringos all congregated at Starbucks on Gringo Avenue with our laptops and no one could connect and sometimes Stephanie could connect to a nearby wireless connection in the neighborhood and sign on to AIM.

For my last interview (at 4:30), my friend Kelly came to meet me around 4. We chatted for a bit while I waited for my interviewee. Come 4:40 I see no one approach me (I had a little sign). I'm looking around the room anxiously trying to find a girl who might look like she's waiting to meet someone...but all I see are people chatting with others or studying hardcore.

So it's 4:45 and, irritated, I call this girl. Kelly is sitting behind me (so that I don't look busy) while I'm calling this girl, asking her where she is, and I can faintly hear Kelly trying to interject while raising her hand. I turn around and the chick I'm supposed to meet is sitting at a nearby table. We exchange glances, realize what we did, and chuckle. Kelly of course was baffled because she heard the other half of my conversation when I called. Thhheeennn Kelly realized right before I called that she (Kelly) told me "YOU SHOULD FIRE HER!" (Which of course, I can't because 1) we didn't even interview yet and 2) She's a volunteer). Oops, was that said too loud?

Well...it was funny if you were there.

No more Starbucks.
