Yeah hi long time from a post, that is what happens when life stays pretty busy though. Guess a lot of people have moved on to other mediums so this has become the more dated way of at least flowing thoughts out

ahh yes indeed and here I am co-chair of a convention that in its 3rd year is at 651 bodies. New hotel, new plans, new headaches and *still the same old same old*. Why do folks assume the con is paying its staff fat loads of cash?. why do the always scream at the prices when we have to, you know, pay the bloody hotel?. The big GoH's?. The insurance so you folks can attend and NOT sue us to death because little timmy got a headcold?.

Seriously most fandoms really need to understand the smaller cons are running at a LOSS for a damn good while, are usually painfully understaffed, and are working like dogs for next to all recognition. Sadly some when they become big and got the worst behind them turn right around and rape the self same fandom that gave them the gears for struggling for so long. Its a evil and very easy to fall into cycle and as I sink towards my 4th year as one of the two chairs I realize this business chews you up and spits you out with about as much care, and class, as old gum.

And the funny fact is..we do this to ourself!. Blame the fans, blame the con, blame the lawyers, blame anyone else BUT your own damn self. Look in the mirror folks and maybe you might see the real reason many cons explode so damn well. Keep it up and you might just find yourself in a hole with not a damn thing to show for it except * hey remember when WE had a con/event/cool shit?*. Keep hammering at the folks doing the hard work like they were a unexploded mine and you just might find a real suprise waiting to go off in your face.

Of course if they do blow a con or event up the denials, the lies, the venom! Sheesh its like a bad game of hot potato and everyone else is to be treated like utter filth. Make those of us who do this stuff for FREE shake our heads and wonder why less and less folks step up and put on the dog leash to pull the con foreword year after year. Might be a tad cynical since working behind the lines but even when I was with you at cons like TT and Ferengicon it was clear then the fandom had a fetish to rip itself to shreds and take out anyone else it could sink its claws into, and on the slimmest of excuses too!

Good times, good memories, good folks, but as we get older the line between tolerance and ignorance gets smaller and smaller. Hope all the up and coming kids start to accept if they want nice things and cool stuff to go to they better go and help out cause once us *old farts* kick off or burn out they will only richly have themselves to bitch at. Of course most won't and just blame us for daring to retire, get sick, or die!
