Things I laugh at

Been awhile, but recently something I saw in a movie had me on the floor laughing very hard...and then later having to figure out how to explain why.

Film was Clerks II; aye finally got around to seeing it; and the whole scene with Randall calling people "porch monkeys" came up and the argument that its a racist remark, with Randall completely not understanding what the fuss was and that the remark was even racist.

I laughed because it reminded me of how many times that happened with Dear young Dad every time we went into the Southern United States. Every year it was a running bet of just what he was going to do next that would have us "scratching the noggin'"

A few of the famous examples.

- One time Dad gets directions. "Y'all go down yonder to y'olde thratchet houses, turns left yonder past dat dere's picket fence, then tassle down that road to the mansion there's"

His reply? >insert english accent< "Say fucking what?"

- MacDonalds in Atlanta Georgia, clearly from demographic not so many "Caucasian" there, when I reach for more ketchup he slaps the hand and insists clearly "Get your cotton-picking hands off of those."

Oh yeah, dead silent crickets too in that restaurant suddenly.

- Most famous for again at a restaurant where when ordering coffee in Alabama he insisted he wanted it "white" from the clearly coloured staff. (That one I can understand as that's in the Commonwealth the way you order coffee with creme, no one knew the "double double" way then.) Oh yeah, really led to stares at that one.

Considering this came from what many who knew him the most embracing and warm person out there, you start to see the humour that he "really didn't know" just what the problem was...like poor Randall.

I laughed, a lot.
