1. Evil is all-encompassing.
2. No matter how smart, good, or wonderful you are, there are some powers that you don't need to have.
3. Sometimes, bad things have to happen. Your attempting to stop them will only make it worse.
4. Never let bitterness about the past overshadow your hope for the future.
5. Young people, especially very talented young people, really need guidance from older people.
6. Your family loves you. Usually, an outsider that tells you to go against them, no matter how alluring he is, is dangerous and wrong.
7. Love is not an excuse to do bad things.
8. Putting love before everything else in your life is a very bad idea. Balance is important.
9. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. If the quest for it doesn't kill you first.
10. If you feel in your gut that everything that you've been brought up believing is true, don't turn your back on it, no matter how plausible the alternative seems.
