Weekend in Review

Feb 27, 2005 21:33

I just ate some fruit snacks that are good until January 27, 2007. That's scary enough, but how specific do they need to be about something two years away? Will they be good January 26 and have rotted away by the 27th? I thought it odd.

The Foundation Fellows weekend went well. Honestly, I liked it a lot better than I thought I would. Most of the fellows were very nice, and I really liked the graduate English class I took. But, whew! It was tiring. I don't think I've ever been under the microscope for such an extended period. The interview went well. It's slightly alarming to have five brilliant people take such an interest in you and be so focused on you. One of them was an investigative reporter- AP bureau chief. And I could definitely tell. He liked to ask weird questions (to test me?) like, "How do you feel personally about Islam as a religion?" and "Would you care to read my accent and tell me where I'm from?" to which I replied, "No." I really can't judge success or lack thereof from here, but I'll know soon enough.

I met some really cool people, including at least four of Sr. Puentes's former GHP students, so that was cool. I also met a lot of people applying to Harvard, including deferred ED applicants and regular applicants. Should be interesting. And believe it or not, I met someone who talks more than I do. She was my roommate. She was really nice, and we got along well, but she's an actress- I'm sure she's skilled at monologues. :) She said that I'm a lot like her little sister, so that was kind of cool.

The current fellows also "took us out on the town" (right) on Friday night. It was interesting because I'd never been to Athens that late at night before. The last shuttle back was a group of girls, and at least four jeeps full of partially inebriated young men went by. That was fun. ;-) We also had a good time at the hotel because we could mix and mingle- they gave us no rules. I didn't have to be anywhere until 11:24 the next morning, so I got to sleep late. That was nice. And now, my monologue is concluding. Night!
