Big Bang Challenge (part 1)

Nov 24, 2010 00:41

The aim was ten thousand words, but it seems I got so wrapped up in my sexy/angsty little tale (the plot of which, I freely admit, does suck just a little!) that fifteen seemed more appropriate!  Posted in parts for easiness (and because it's the only way it would work for me)

Disclaimer; I own nothing but the admittedly un-enthralling storyline!  I just borrow the characters and return then a little less sexually repressed...and perhaps a little clinically depressed in others!

“Doctor, where are we?” asked Rory, gazing around the new environment they found themselves in.

“Planet Belto,” replied the Doctor. “But I don’t know why. I didn’t bring us here.” He turned and looked at River, who was perched elegantly on a rock, her handheld console clutched in one hand as she twirled a stray curl with the other.

“Don’t look at me,” she said, not bothering to look at him. “Does this look like the kind of place I would take us?”

Amy didn’t think so. When the Doctor let River take the controls, they at least usually ended up in some sort of civilization. Usually one with shoe shops. Hence the reason Amy now owned a pair of genuine Grecian sandals. They didn’t end up in some swampy, jungle-like place…which smelled, bad. Careful to only step on the solid ground, Amy began a timid exploration of the area they found themselves in.

“Well if you didn’t bring us here, who did?” asked the Doctor.

“Didn’t touch a thing,” shouted Amy, knowing his next question would be if she had flicked a switch again. She liked flicking switches, sliding levers. Not when they really needed to go somewhere, but when they went on their little leisure trips, when it wasn’t really dangerous.

“Rory?” the Doctor asked, turning his attention to him.

He shook his head violently, replying in that nervous tone he never seemed to lose. “Not me. I wouldn’t.”

“Of course you wouldn’t,” muttered River. “Too much of a good little boy for that.” She heard a small snort of laughter from Amy and glanced up, seeing the amusement written on the red head’s face. She often wondered what she seen in Rory. He doted on her yes, but he never seemed to have any ‘go’. There was no passion about him. He would never even argue with Amy. She could shout and rage, and he would just nod and mumble non-committal replies. It was pathetic.

And it wasn’t as if Amy ever seemed to stick up for him. Today’s comment was by no means the first, or worst that River had aimed at Rory, and not once had Amy defended him, choosing to laugh at the comment instead.

River was brought back to the present by the Doctor hanging over her shoulder, jabbing at buttons on her console. “Belto, 3034, dominant species the Harojen…the Harojen, the Harojen, who are they again?”

“Doctor!” came a muffled scream from Amy. The three of them turned to see Amy being carried off over the shoulder of a huge, muscled man.

“The Harojen!” announced the Doctor. “Of course, humanoid species, obsessed with strength. Fond of a war or two.”

River rolled her eyes as he kept talking, shoving her console into his hands as she leapt up, starting to chase after the retreating form of the Harojen. If the Doctor would prefer to give out an oral history of the Harojen, and Rory didn’t fancy taking the time to save his own wife then she supposed it fell to her, girl power and all that.
Somehow catching up, River found herself without a plan as to quite what to do to rescue Amy. She had a gun, yes, but somehow she didn’t think shooting a member of a war-happy race would be the best thing to do, especially when he was more than twice her size. Tiring, she knew that if she didn’t want to lose Amy, she had better do something soon. Making her choice, she threw herself at the huge man, wrapping an arm around his neck while Amy tried to grab hold of her other arm. As secure as she was going to be any time soon, she kicked with everything she had, managing to land a blow on the back of the man’s legs, bringing him down with a grunt. Landing heavily, River was glad to land on top of him rather than under. She pushed herself to her feet, pulling Amy with her. Standing protectively in front of her, she drew her gun, pointing it at the man as he slowly and warily got to his feet. “Leave her alone, or I will shoot. I mean it.” Glaring at her for a few moments, he slowly retreated, finally turning and running off in the direction he had been going in.

Amy wrapped her arm around River’s neck, hugging her tightly from behind. “That was amazing. You saved me.”

“Someone…had to,” panted River. She was used to running. With the Doctor, that was a given, but sprinting at Harojen pace, well, that was another thing entirely. She let herself drop down to a sitting position, resting her elbows on her knees until she got her breath back. “Are you alright?” she asked, still more concerned about Amy. She twisted round, inspecting the red head for injuries.

“Me?” asked Amy incredulously. The women had just thrown herself at the biggest man Amy had ever seen to get her back, and she was asking if she was okay? “I wasn’t the one taking down hulking great guys. I should be asking you!”

River smiled, unable not to laugh. “It was more throwing myself and hoping.”

Amy found herself smiling back, blushing even as she tried and failed not to think of how damn sexy River had looked the entire time, not to mention it was also pretty damn hot that she had risked herself to save Amy.

‘Throwing myself and hoping.’ And that was exactly what Amy did. She threw herself at River, crushing their lips together. Taking River by surprise the older woman was knocked onto her back, Amy on top of her. Surprise did not, however, stop her from reciprocating. She gladly accepted when Amy deepened the kiss, choosing the stay in the moment rather than think about what the kiss could mean, who would be hurt if they found out. When the red head finally pulled back, River was left even more breathless than she started. “What the hell was that?” she demanded rather halfheartedly, not admitting for a moment that it was more than welcome. She didn’t just go running and saving anyone, afterall.

“Throwing myself and hoping,” Amy told her, grinning.

River was robbed of any chance to reply by the sudden appearance of the Doctor and Rory. “You got her then?”

Amy pushed herself to her feet. “Yes she did, no thanks to you two useless buggers!” she shouted. She reached back and pulled River to her feet as well. She turned back to the two boys, who were standing rather awkwardly looking at their feet. “Didn’t see either of you running after me and throwing yourself at giants to save me!”

At this they both looked up, glancing at River and looking rather impressed.

“Yes, well,” started the Doctor. “Now that that crisis is over we can go and find out why the TARDIS brought us here.”

“Oh yes, let’s avoid the awkward moment with an oh-so-subtle subject change,” said River sarcastically.
“At least no one got hurt,” said Rory, his attempt at being optimistic.

Both women turned and glared at him. “That man could have killed me and you wouldn’t have known, just standing there!” shouted Amy, looping her arm through River’s. “At least someone made the effort.” She walked off with River, leaving Rory shuffling along at the rear of the group.
