Mmm, I'm eating chicken and rice soup. I didn't realize the recipe would make as much as it did, so unless I"m eating with friends, this is what I have been eating since I made it. It's weird because it tasted better the second time I ate it then right after I made it. I really need to share it with people though because it will go bad soon, and I still have a lot left.

After drawing class on Wednesday, I noticed my contact was irritating my eye, so when I got home I threw my contacts out, and when I looked at my eye I was surprised to find that it was completely red. You couldn't even see any of the veins in my eye, that's how red it was. It also hurt, even though I had taken my contacts out, so I started to suspect I might have another eye infection. I went to SACI and got the name of an optometrist and then went home and went to bed early. It was interesting trying to sleep Wednesday night because my eye kept watering, and it had begun to hurt pretty badly. I got up on Thursday and walked the 30 minutes to the optometrist's office, and was seen almost immediately, without an appointment. I tried calling before I got there but the receptionist didn't speak any english, so between her lack of english, and my lack of italian, an appointment was never really made. The eye doctor took one look at my eye, sat me down in front of a machine, looked at my eye through the machine for about 15 seconds and then proceeded to tell me what I had suspected: I had a corneal eye infection due to my contact lenses. After that he took me to another machine and took a picture of my eye that showed me where the infection actually was on my cornea. He then prescribed me four different drops (one of which dilates my pupil), and wrote me a note for my teachers whose classes I had missed. I am going back on Monday at 3:15 for a follow-up appointment.

Today, my eye is more of a pink color, and you can actually see the veins in my eye. My pupil is dilated as I type this, and I can't really see out of my infected eye (my right), since everything is fuzzy due to my dilated pupil. I guess I have learned my lesson about properly cleaning my contacts. I have to wear my glasses for a month though, and I am not looking forward to that at all. I hate wearing my glasses. I went out two nights ago and didn't even wear them. I have surprisingly better vision than I thought. I talked to my parents today about lasik eye surgery, and I am considering that a possibility for the future. It sure beats wearing glasses or contacts, and getting eye infections. I want to walk around today, but I am afraid to walk out in the sunlight with my pupil dilated the way it is. I get terrible headaches and feel nauseous, kind of like a hang-over (but I wouldn't know how that feels, right?) I might have to venture out for some gelato though. I also want to visit IKEA, I'm just not sure if I want to go by myself. There is a shuttle here that runs to IKEA and it is FREE! I have never been to an IKEA before, so the fact that I can go, and go for free is exciting to me.

It rained here all day yesterday. It is supposed to rain all weekend, but it is sunny at right now, and I'm hoping it stays that way. The rain depresses me, especially here, where I have no other mode of transportation than walking. I bought some dried fruit at the market yesterday-- apples, kiwi, starfruit, strawberries, bananas, and coconut. All of it is good, but I think next time I buy dried fruit I'm sticking with the bananas and coconut, they're my favorite. Also, since peanut butter is so expensive here, I have been eating nutella and banana sandwiches. It isn't as good as the original peanut butter and banana sandwich, but it will do for now. I have the apartment to myself today and I'm so glad. It's nice to be able to sleep in as late as want, and relax. Sometimes being by myself gets lonely, but there are days like today when I love it. I think today I'm going to sit down and make some lists: how much money I'll be spending, what trips I want to take, what food I need to buy for next time, what I need to do for school and midterms, what I want to buy for myself while I'm here, what I want to buy for other people while I'm here, what movies I want to buy when I get home (of course, not right away... just once I actually have money), etc.

Anyway, I guess that's all for now. Hopefully I'll make a trip to IKEA before the weekend's over and let you know how it went.

Ciao,
Emily
