The real treat was hanging out with my dear friend Robb though.
Took the Köln-Hamburg express for the first leg of my journey home yesterday. The landscape was beautiful sun-drenched fields and colorful leaves. It was running late though, so I was worrying that I might be stranded in Hamburg without much money or a working phone.
Of course I did not make it in time for the connecting train. We wound up being a whopping hour and change late. I talked to the people at Deutsche Bahn (showing my world class pitifulness-skills). and they finally let me take the next train with no extra charge. That was a class act, since the Köln-Hamburg Express isn't a DB line.
After that it was pretty smooth sailing. Two hours in a compartment with no light and a kicking toddler was nothing! I smiled at him and listened to Ligotti's The Bungalow House on my mp3-player.
