I saw Ocean's 8! And Hotel Artemis! And before that I also saw Rampage!

I loved it! If I have any complaints is that I do wish it broke away a little more from the Ocean's 11 template, but that's a minor issue. Also I could have done without the nasty ex lover device, and the "tell me this is not about going after your ex boyfriend" or whatever that line was.

~ That cast had way too much fun. <3

~ My fave part might be Debbie and Lou outside the restaurant when Helena's character was trying to have lunch with Anne the Actress (I only know Debbie and Lou and Nine Ball's names!)

~ When Nine-ball got out of the van in an evening gown, hello. I mean, Rhianna can wear a dress, all right.

~ I spent most of the movie lost in my own headcanon that Lou is actually Hela slumming on Earth before Ragnarok. HAHA. I amuse myself.

~ It's a pleasure to see Sandra in a role I like. It's been a while. Ditto Anne what's her name. I thought Anne was great in that role -- she got that tone down perfect lol. I think they could have gone further having Anne answer obnoxious reporter questions.

~ The audience LOVED It. They laughed like every five minutes, I swear.

~ Sign me up for the Debbie/Lou wagon.

~ I honestly kept expecting a Danny cameo at one point, and then I read later that Damon was supposed to be in it but his part got cut after his dumb comments re: the me too movement, which I don't doubt was a good call. And then afterward, I was kind of glad Danny or Rusty didn't have a cameo so that this could just be it's own thing. It's already borrowing quite a bit from O11. And I'm fine with never knowing whether he's alive or dead. Leaving that question unanswered is, imo, more expansive.

And I also went to see Hotel Artemis, which I didn't know anything about at all when I went to see it.

Okay, I knew it was set in a dystopian future and that it was supposed to be a hospital for bad guys, so I was envisioning a John Wick sort of thing.

It's not getting good reviews, which I can understand why. It's one of those films with a great concept and poor plotting and execution, and the only thing it's got going for it is that they cast excellent actors. Jodie Foster was great. I had no idea she was in the movie. In fact, i spent most of the movie surprised because each time a new character came on screen I was like, "Oh Jenny Slate is in this? Oh Drax is in this?? OH that dude who plays Spock is in this?? Oh that pretty lady from Star Trek Beyond is in this too??? OH HAI JEFF GOLDBLUM." In fact, the only actor who I did know was in it was the male lead, who played Erik Killmonger's dad in Black Panther, and he's totally worth watching imo.

I kind of forced myself to go see Rampage. I went on a saturday post my birthday shenanigans and was nursing a four double margarita headdache. But it was seriously, I am not kidding here, a delight from start to finish lol and afterward I was like GOOD CALL, SELF. WHEN CAN I SEE IT AGAIN?? I loved that movie! It was So Dumb. And So Ridiculous. And Perfect. I don't even know who I am anymore, but apparently whoever I am is someone who unapologetically loves Dwayne Johnson in anything he ever does. End of story.

~ I had no idea that it was based on a video game, but I might have known.

~ DJ's character is supposed to be this anti-social guy who only likes his animal buddies. :D Problem of course is that DJ is like hard-wired into the american psyche as everyone's big brother. haha.

~ See, I have a weakness for male characters who talk better with animals than they do with humans. It's why I loved Jurassic World! Especially because these films always have a scene where the the animal guy saves the dumb humans from the scary beasts that are really cuddly... ok the raptors in JW may not be that cuddly, but the giant albino gorilla was!

~ The science in this film was so ridiculous. But I liked Malin what's her name as the bad guy. She was great. So evil! So corporate!

~ Also there was unexpected slash (tm) between DJ's character and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character, which is not a combo I would have ever expected ever ever. But they were flat out flirting by the end of the film. (JDM is very like his Losers character in this, imo).

~ I want the sequel to be Rampage: Herbivores!! Can I please have like a giant mutating mule that can fly??? and a giant bunny rabbit?? A giant sheep?? But they can't be killed at the end. Please and thank you.

~ ETA to add, the giant albino gorilla lives in this, but the other mutated monsters are killed. They are a wolf and an alligator, and they're pretty vicious and wild to begin with, while the gorilla wasn't. In case anyone cares.

~~~
In other news, my Steve/Thor keeps creeping toward finished. It's mushroomed (of course) and I'm guessing will be around 45K words. WHAT. Also the first 20k words is solid Steve angst....whoops?
