with Captain Jack Sparrow!
Had a chance to see On Stranger Tides Saturday night, and I loved it.
~ I'm a simple girl, the film only needed Captain Jack Sparrow flying around, escaping in the presence of King George, for me to fall in love with it. I was already in love with Jack.
~ I managed to be completely unspoiled for the film. All I knew going in was that a) it featured Captain Jack Sparrow, b) there was a lady pirate, and c) possible a mermaid, and d) had something to do with the Fountain of Life. That was it! I didn't know about Blackbeard OR Ian McShane, which if I had been conscious about would have made me about a bazillion times more excited. It took me a few moments to recognize Al Swearengen under all that hair. LOL.
~ GIBBS. NEVER LEAVE ME. Um, is it me or is this film heavily leaning toward Jack/Gibbs?? I can't say I disapprove.
~ Knowing it wasn't going to happen, I still half expected Elizabeth to pop up for a quick scene. :( Mayhaps I was the only one missing her, and I knew she wasn't going to be in it, and for the most part I was perfectly fine with it because honestly I don't care that much, but while watching it, I still missed her. I guess she's probably off taking care of her son! or something.
~ I did feel that the final scene at the end with the water of the fountain and Angelica and Blackbeard with Jack in the middle was a bit of a retread of how At World's End ended with Will's life being saved at a terrible price. The stakes didn't feel as high and the emotional impact was very low. I am just not that invested in Angelica, whom I liked a lot but I guess not enough to care one way or the other, and as much as I LOVED Blackbeard, his death wasn't sad. That ending was a little obvious to me. Well, except for the Spanish dude throwing the chalice's away like that. LOL. That I wasn't expecting.
~ Mermaids! Well, again, not a new portrayal, I would have liked if the captured Sirena had been a tad more feisty instead of so melancholy and pretty. I wanted to see more of them. I was worried about how Disney was going to portray them and all but I wasn't too bothered.
~ Can't wait for the next one! Seems like Johnny isn't tired of Captain Jack yet. I'm okay with this.
