stuff and Stuff

I attended a funeral today for one of my acting/theatre/directing teachers from high school. He was a crotchety old man all those years ago when I knew him, and from all accounts he remained such till he passed this weekend, and we all loved him for it. R.I.P Norman, we're better for having known you.

Having had a long life in theatre, TV, and film, there were a few fringe celebrity types there at the funeral, but the only one I was 'omg hold the phone' about was none other than Victor Kiriakis from Days of Our Lives. I don't care what the man's real name is, he will always be Victor to me! The only thing that would have topped that was if Stephano DiMera had shown up.

I hadn't seen some of my high school classmates since graduation. Trippy.

PROJECT RUNWAY. Too use a Tim Gunnism, I thought Suede's outfit was a "hot mess" until it went down the runway, where it stood out, in any case. I peeked at the TWOP forums and someone said it looked like a doodle-loom potholder. *bwah*. I didn't like Stella's outfit (although I like her; she's hysterical) and would never wear it. My favorite was Daniel's black dress. That's be my choice.

I'm under strict orders from my cousin to catch up on Battlestar Galactica so he can talk to me about it already. Been avoiding it, frankly, since last season was just all together exhausting and unremittingly dark (and convoluted), but I am curious to see what's what now. So, I finally started last night, watching Razor.

-- Ah yes, still gloomy, I see. BSG makes Doctor Who look like a day at Disneyland.

-- Totally fascinated by the main girl's entire look. I was like, what, is she 19 years old? hahah. But she did a creditable job of being royally fucked-up by Caine, imo, even if I'd have appreciated an older actress.

-- This time around, knowing Caine was going to be a crazy mofo, I was able to enjoy the the performance. Ensign Ro! How far you've come.

--Didn't particularly think we needed Caine's backstory with her sister. It was a little too pat, imo, TV shortcut to character development, especially on BSG which is in love with flashbacks. I mean, she's crazy. That's not something that's necessarily born from one traumatic event, and her breed of crazy was very military, it should have been bred from a military experience, imo, but granted they didn't really have time to draw as complex a portrait of a crazy person as, say, Baltar. However, I loved the back story regarding the Pegasus Six, and them being lovers, and all of that. *That*, imo, went a lot further in illuminating Caine than the sister thing.

-- Tricia Helfer is so pretty. Prettier with the honey-colored hair.

-- I'd forgotten how hot Starbuck was. Dang.

-- Whatever affection I used to have for Apollo is just not there anymore. The best I can say is I didn't hate him.

-- Could have done without the gory leftover bloody torture scenes, thankyouverymuch. Horror flick gore is gratuitous. The part where young!Adama tried to rescue those poor people stuck in the Cylon base or whatever it was, with their wild eyes and hands reaching through the crack in the door, THAT's scary and ten times more affective to get fear and disgust across, imo.

-- Young William Adama! Hello, handsome.

-- Only a short scene, but I loved seeing Laura Roslin again. :D

Ah, good. I'm gratified to see Moffat talking like a showrunner should. That's what I'm saying.
