Summary: New school, new life, new friends and of course a new crush that Donghae doesn't know whether he can trust or not.
“Here it is, beautiful Kyrie High School for Seoul Musicians.” His father told him, as he parked his car near a grand looking school, which could have easily been described as a castle.
“Thank you appa.” Donghae smiled, gathering his things from the car and stepping out.
“Have a wonderful time here Donghae. We’ll miss you.” His wonderful father called out from the open window. “Your mother and I….we’ll miss you. I’ll send lots of letters for sure and you better reply!”
“Oh I don’t know appa; I’ll probably be really busy…” Donghae teased, grinning from ear to ear. Of course he would reply. He loved his father more than anything, and there wasn’t anything in the world he would trade for with his father.
“Yah! Donghae! You better reply! No smoking, no drugs, focus on your homework and school and make lots of friends okay?”
“Of course appa, no having fun right?”
“I didn’t say that!”
Donghae laughed. He loved being around his father, who was always lots of fun. They constantly teased each other and made fun of each other, that they were like friends, not father/son. And Donghae didn’t mind that at all.
“Haha, okay appa, I understand.”
“Be good Donghae! Or I’m taking away your guitar!”
“No! Not my guitar! Anything but my guitar! Take Donghwa, I don’t care, just not my guitar!”
“I’m telling Donghwa you said that!”
“Wait appa, I take that back!”
His father laughed, his beautiful melodic laugh that Donghae loved to hear.
“Alright Donghae, I won’t tell Donghwa. But you better reply to your letters or I’m telling him. Now go to school, I don’t want you to be late!”
“I love you appa!” Donghae called out, waving frantically at the car that was backing away.
“You’re too old to be saying that out loud in public!” his father yelled back, but waved, which was his way of sending his love.
Donghae watched the car drive away until it was just a speck on the road, and he finally turned to face the large school. It had been hard to get in, and after sixteen years of his parents struggling, he had been accepted. But truthfully, he shouldn’t have been accepted to this expensive school. All the students were required to wear a uniform and play two instruments, both with Donghae’s parents didn’t have the money to afford. And to make matters worse, the family had to move to Seoul to even get their application looked at. His parents still had to pay lots of fees, and he had only been allowed to go since he was good at dancing, and he could rap and sing. Plus, as far as he was concerned, he was pretty cute for an average sixteen year old.
He walked in, and headed straight for the map that was down the hall. Looking at it made him dizzy. The place was huge, and it had winding stairs that led everywhere, and hallways that were longer than the height of his tiny apartment. The classrooms were larger than his apartment suite and there was a huge science lab, and a foods department. And of course, in the middle, the largest space that invaded the map was the master auditorium, with a real stage with velvet red curtains, thousands of music stands and chairs for the insturmentists, and a huge costume closet that was about the size of his old town Mokpo. He looked around for the office and noticed that it was on the other side of the hallway, and he started his journey to the large fancy looking office.
Three times he bumped into someone, twice being glared at and the last one actually meeting a decent person. During the walk to the office, he added two things into his mind-notebook.
1. Everyone is a snobby rich bitch, who are plastic-surgified to become singers or dancers in the kpop world.
2. There are only two nice and regular people in this school. Myself, and the boy that I bumped into when I was walking to the office.
-
Even in the office he was shoved away and told to be good blah blah all that crap that showed that office people never really cared about you. The vice president gave him his schedule and shut him out, not even showing where his next class was. But it didn’t bother Donghae. He was used to it, and his mind was already clouded with something he wished weren’t true.
He kept on thinking about the boy that he bumped into, and how pretty he was.
He stumbled into his class, science, and walked over to the teacher.
“Sorry I’m late.” He murmured as he relaxed his tense shoulders from walking around the too-big-to-be-true-castle-like school.
“And what do you think you’re doing, ten minutes late to class?” the teacher asked, her eyes behind a pair of large red glasses glared upon him.
“Sorry, I’m… I’m new here and I got lost-”
“That is no excuse! Sit down now and open your text book to page 431 now!”
“Wh-where should I sit ma’am?”
The teacher glared at him.
“You must call me Madame Park, and you will sit over there.”
Donghae looked at where Madame Park was pointing, and saw an empty seat next to a skinny, cute but nerdy boy with dark hair and brown eyes.
“Oh okay thank you.”
“Thank you Madame Park you mean.”
“What? Oh yes thank you Madame Park.”
As he walked over to the boy, he heard people snicker and laugh.
Donghae ignored them. He sat down next to the pretty boy and placed his books in front of him.
“What’s your name?” the boy asked.
“Donghae, Lee Donghae. What’s yours?” Donghae whispered.
“Donghae? That’s an interesting name. My name is Kibum, Kim Kibum.”
“How original.” Donghae had to tease.
“Hey, it’s better than east sea.” Kibum grinned back.
“STOP TALKING OVER THERE BOYS!” Madame Park yelled from her desk.
Everyone laughed from behinds their textbooks. Donghae quickly flipped open his textbook to a random page and stared at the contents.
Kibum did the same and when they met eyes, they both smiled.
Donghae mentally crossed number two in his mind-notebook.
2. There are only two nice and regular people in this school. Myself, and the boy that I bumped into when I was walking to the office.
2. There are only three nice and regular people in this school. Myself; the boy that I bumped into when I was walking to the office, and my possibly-new-friend Kim Kibum.
-
“Hey Kibum, is that your new boyfriend?” A voice called out from behind the two friends. Donghae and Kibum were sitting in the auditorium, tuning their guitars and clarinets.
Kibum immediately turned around and glared at the tall boy with brunette hair.
“Kyuhyu-”
“Oh no need to introduce me to that boy Kibum, you know that’s not going to make me jealous. I’m not like you.” Kyuhyun twirled his soft hair with his pretty fingers and licked his lips teasingly.
“I wasn’t going t-”
“Oh here’s my baby Hyukkie coming here. He’s perfect unlike someone.” the boy that Donghae didn’t know grinned, emphasizing on the words that didn’t need to be. He skipped over to a blonde boy, just as tall as himself who dancing towards them like he was floating in the air.
“Hyukkiie~” Kyuhyun gushed, hugging his boyfriend.”
“Kyuhyunnie~” the blonde haired boy gushed back as well, but kept his eyes on the ground, checking his footsteps.
Kibum sighed, and pulled Donghae away from the love birds.
“Let’s go Donghae.”
Donghae followed his friend, but couldn’t help staring at the beautiful blonde dancer that shown like a star that had fallen down from the sky.
-
“I call them double trouble.” Kibum explained, once they were settled down once again. They had moved over to the library, and it was much quieter than the auditorium, so it was hard to keep their voices low.
“Why do you call them that?” Donghae asked.
“Because when they are together, all you get it trouble.”
“Were…were you and that tall-”
“They’re both tall. Okay the brunette haired one is called Kyuhyun. He’s the top singer in the school and he’s the second best student in the school.”
“Wow. Who’s first?”
“The blonde one who came in the auditorium, dancing. He’s the top dancer in the school and he’s the number one student as well.”
Donghae was silent for a long time. Then he finished his first question,
“Were you and Kyuhyun dating before?”
Kibum sighed.
“No. But Kyuhyun always makes it seem like it.”
“I bumped into Hyukjae when I was going to the office this morning and he seemed like a good person.” Donghae said, glancing at the door of the library.
Kibum burst out laughing.
“Hyukjae nice? No way. Stay away from Hyukjae alright, that guy isn’t someone you want to see every day. He spends his days dancing, rapping and singing-he’s one of the most talented students in the school- and when he talks to someone, it’s only to Kyuhyun or Siwon, his favourite dongsaengs. The rest is for making fun of people. If you aren’t as talented as him, he’s just going to make fun of you. That’s why he’s only with Kyuhyun-the best singer- and Siwon-the top model and rich sexy bitch in this school.”
Donghae looked at Kibum in sadly.
“Really?”
“I don’t want to say it, but yeah, from what I know about him in the last four years, he’s like that.”
“Has he ever made fun of you before?”
“Of course! Many times.”
Donghae looked down at the ground. He felt terrible, hearing that Hyukjae was a bully who thought too highly of himself, and knowing that he liked someone who had made fun of his first friend in Kyrie High.
-
To say that Donghae was interested in Hyukjae was an understatement. He wasn’t just interested in hi, he was in love with him by the time he went to dance class at the end of the day.
And Donghae understood why Hyukjae was the number one dancer in the school.
The way he moved and glided on the floor while he danced was like watching little turtles being hatched on the sand and making its way over to the sea-it was breathtakingly beautiful.
When it was Donghae’s turn to do an improvisation dance in front of everyone, he was embarrassed at first but he started to dance a slow dance, thinking about his crush Hyukjae as he danced.
Everyone clapped in the end and high fived him when he was done.
“That was awesome Donghae!” some of his classmates complimented, slapping him on the back.
Donghae grinned happily, glad that his first dance was such a big hit.
Suddenly, someone stopped him by grabbing his shoulders.
“Hey, Donghae?” the person asked.
Donghae looked up and saw a smiling Hyukjae, who sincerely looked happy to bump into him.
“Um, hi Hyukjae.” He said quickly when he realized that he was staring into his eyes.
“You did a great job when you danced there Donghae, what were you thinking about when you danced it?”
A few girls around them squealed when they saw Hyukjae and gushed compliments.
‘oh my gosh hyukjae~ you were so hot when you were dancing!
you’re so nice, complimenting other people too~
Hyukjae look over here!’
“What?” Donghae asked, turning his attention back to Hyukjae.
“Surely you were thinking about something while you were dancing right? All true dancers think while their dancing, whether it’s about their favourite thing in the world or their family or whatever! What were you thinking about?”
Donghae didn’t know how to respond until Hyukjae grinned and whispered in Donghae’s ear,
“Because I was thinking about you when I was dancing.”
-
Kibum groaned when he heard this. They were at the library again after dinner and Kibum at the moment was trying to ignore Donghae.
“Aw god dammit now he’s using the seducing method is he? Don’t fall for it Donghae, I swear!”
“But he’s so cutee…”
“Ugh now you like him?”
“Kibum, he’s so….perfect how could you not? I’m like obsessed with him.”
“Please tell me he just put some random love potion on you.”
“I don’t think so Kibum, I really like him.”
“Go away Donghae.” Kibum rolled his eyes and went as far away as he could from Donghae in the library.
“Nooo Kibum come backk~” Donghae laughed, chasing after Kibum.
Suddenly someone stopped Donghae from running into Kibum.
“Hey Donghae, sorry to interrupt but do you want to come to my dance recital with me? It’s on Sunday and I would love to see you there.”
“No!” Kibum yelled, pushing Hyukjae away from Donghae and grabbing the red haired boy to safety. “Donghae, don’t listen to Hyukjae, he’s just tricking you! Don’t fall for it!”
“Kibum ssi, I would never!” Hyukjae looked at Kibum, eyes wide but with a smirk, taking Donghae’s hand gently.
“Donghae!! Run! He doesn’t like you, hurry up!”
“No Donghae, I didn’t tell you this before but I love you! Please come, it would mean the world to me if you-”
“Donghae he’s done this to everyone, he’s just going to play with your heart! Don’t listen to him!”
“Donghae don’t listen to Kibum…he likes you!”
Kibum’s eyes widened with anger and he stared at Hyukjae in disbelief.
Using this chance, Hyukjae continued to talk,
“Donghae, he’s just jealous that I asked you out first. Come with me and I promise you’ll have fun, I just really want you to see the dance that I made for you-”
“Donghae!! Donghae!! Don’t go, you’ll regret it!”
“Donghae!”
“Donghae…”
