I finally got my mom to watch Dexter with me last night...

I say that like she didn't want to - she did, she'd seen bits and pieces and heard me and my brother talking about it and thought it sounded really interesting. But the trouble with this is that she's seriously squeamish. Like, she can't even watch ER without getting faint. So I don't know if she didn't realize that it was going to be so gory, or what (she knew it was on Showtime and that it's about a serial killer, so what she was expecting, I have no idea) but as soon as she saw the guy tied down in that first kill scene and Dexter in his whole murderin' suit (with the smock and splatter guard and all) she says, "We have to WATCH HIM DO IT?" Which you don't, really.

I'm like... "Did I not explain to you what this show is about?"

"Well... yeah..."

And then Dexter makes his cut on the guy's cheek to take his slide sample. That's all. And she goes "uhhhnnnnh" and squeezes her eyes shut.

So I had to fast forward through the kill scenes. Or try to, anyway, it's hard because our DVD player is really crap. So she might have to ignore one or two.

I keep asking her if she's going to worry about me now (she's one of those moms who blames TV for all society's ills) and she reassures me that she is not concerned that I will start dismembering people.

She does seem to like the show, though. Except for the whole blood and murder thing.
