"There! I ranked them. Next is green, and then brown, and at the end I had yellow and orange and all the awkward crayon colors."

She spent a lot of time on them! (Sort of.) Her penmanship is so pretty!
"Bar ... can we get some blue nail polish? And ... like a turquoise?"
The little bottles appear.
Hopefully, they will be so pretty and shiny that Elle will not be able to resist!

She's trying to think of what Elle might mean by too obvious.
She scoops up the nail polish bottles and slips them into the pockets of her slacks, then politely asks the Bar for a selection of bad horror movies and reality television. They'll probably have to do what she always does (it feels like) and watch on a mini-DVD player.
"Did you have fun at prom?" she asks, scooping up DVDs and player. "We should probably find a couch or ... something."
