Yesterday was a weird day.

It was a pajama day - 3rd this week. My son and mom have  both have colds to beat the band, and my son came home from grandma's with a nasty diaper rash, so I've been working from home these last few days in a row. She's slightly better now, and he'll live, i bet, so i get to go to work tomorrow.

I've been put in a slightly managerial position last month, which was kinda cool, actually. I have a small army of Data Scrubbers working under me, which is kind of nice, that i'm not having to work at ass o'clock at night on this project.

An opportunity presented itself to go to Europe for work.. so... i'm totally going! I leave on the 25th, spending 5 days in London for a sales conference, and then flying to Luxembourg to train people, then back to London, and we're going to squeeze in a trip to Paris too! In London we're staying at a hotel near the Tower of London on the Thames river. i Am SO twitterpated. If any of you have any suggestions as to where i could go while i was there, that would be helpful!

Preparing for this trip wasn't without it's pitfalls, unfortunately. I had to go apply for a passport, which i was swiftly denied for... because of Elise.

Over a year ago i had my name legally changed to my married name. While at the Social Security office, the clerk asked me why i didn't have a middle name. I told him my parents didn't really like the practice, for a reason i did not know. he asked me if i wanted one, I said sure... So for no additional charge i had Elise added to my full... what i thought was my legal... name.

I've been using it ever since. Had my drivers license changed, my insurance cards, my HR paperwork, etc.

Apparently, when a middle name is added like that, it takes a court order and several months to process because you have to get a birth certificate reissued with the new name on it. Who knew?

I filled out my passport information, blissfully unaware that my name change was not legal, and submitted. a few minutes later the clerk called me to her desk, and asked me why i would add "ELSIE" to my name in a nasal tone that did not prompt happy thoughts to come to mind.

ELSIE.
Not ELISE.
ELSIE.

She kept saying it too. I kept correcting her - she just kept going.

I digress. Extremely long story short, i had to go to the social security office, have Elise removed from my social. Then i had to wait 2 days to go to the DMV and get my drivers licensed reissued - de-Elised.

After I obtained all this info, i went back to the passport center, and wouldn't you know it, got the same Elsie-ing clerk as last time. She didn't say anything, and neither did i, and i think it was for the best.

I got my passport yesterday. It only took about 8 days & $200 to turn it around. Not bad at all, says i. There was much squeeing (tho quiet, since the baby was asleep) and jumping up and down.

So back to yesterday.
I wrote a smartly worded email to my boss re: my employees, which had lots of facts & figures.... and a misspelling in the subject line, which i didn't catch til later. Love it.
The baby slept for a long time yesterday, so i got to do quite a bit of work, then paul came home and i got to do more.

Around 9:30 i opened my email, and there was an email from one of my favourite co-workers ever,  telling me he's leaving and tomorrow is his last day.
I cried, a lot. so much that the baby walked over and gave me a big kiss on my cheek and it still did not fix things. This guy took me for my very first candlelit dinner, was the first one to give me useful dating advice, He's been talking about leaving since the first day i showed up to work over 4 years ago - i just never actually thought he would do it. I have no idea how i'm going to say goodbye to him today.

:(

I have got to get my shit together and keep it together until after I interview a new candidate for my minionship. Post interview, i cannot guarantee that i will not be bawling for the rest of the day.

So yeah. those are the thoughts that currently weigh heavy on my mind.
