[Quinn got the message and was wondering what was going on, so as soon as she could, she called him back and waited for him to pick up.]

William steps hurries from his kitchen, a glass of water in his hand, and picks up his ringing phone.

"Hello, Quinn," he says with a mix of casualty and professionalism, sitting on the couch. He wonders how she's going to react to his idea, but wanted to ask her before bringing it up to the glee kids, since first and foremost it concerns her.

"I did. I wanted to get a feel for how you'd feel about this, before I say anything during rehearsals..."

Will trails off for a moment and stays quiet, and he hears a sharp intake of breath on Quinn's end, but he only smiles to himself.

"How would you like to have the closing solo at nationals? I was thinking of giving Kurt the opening one."

Her eyes go wide on the other end and she wasn't sure what to say. "Uh.. seriously? The closing solo?"

His smile grows bigger, and she can hear the amusement in his voice. "Yes, seriously. The closing solo..."

"Oh wow. Thanks, Mr.Schu. I just.. wow." But since she had him on the phone.. "I was wondering, during glee club tomorrow would it be alright if I sang a song? It's just something I've wanted to sing for a little while."

Will thinks about her question, and he has never been one to deny a student to sing, but for fun he decides to joke around with her.

"No, you can't sing," Will says, an edge of sarcasm in his voice.

Perhaps he shouldn't have had that other beer earlier...

She didn't hear the sarcasm though and her voice sounded disappointed. "Oh. Well.. maybe another time then."

William feels guilty hearing Quinn's disappointment, but can't help but laugh a little. "Quinn, how long have you known me as a teacher now? Of course you can sing a song, I was only joking before, and I apologize."

He tears the paper off his Arrowhead bottle of water, hoping that she is not angry with him.

"Oh. Well, you're free to say no, so I wasn't sure if you were serious or not. So, tomorrow I can sing?" there was a lightness to her voice when he had said she could. She had big plans. Big.

"Yes, of course you can sing! I am sorry for being sarcastic, that was rude. What are you going to sing, if you don't mind my asking?" Whatever song she plans to sing, he knows that she's going to blow them all away, him included; she has such a beautiful voice and the ability to sing almost anything.

"No, it's alright. I should've realized you were being sarcastic. But is it okay if I keep the song a secret? It's not inappropriate, I swear." she was singing it for someone in glee club and wanted to keep pretty much everyone in suspense. Even though Mr. Schu was the only one who knew she was even going to sing a song.

The idea of keeping the song a secret has him in suspense, he's eager to hear it, but he smiles to himself. "That is absolutely fine! I will see you tomorrow, Quinn, thank you for returning the call, and you have the closing solo..."

The wheels in Will's mind were turning quickly, and he knew in his gut that spreading the solos around, shining the light on everyone's talents was what was going to set them apart at nationals. He could hardly wait to tell the glee club, but first he had to decide on the opening solo.

There was definitely a smile in her voice. "Thanks again, Mr. Schu. See you tomorrow and I'll talk to you more about the closing solo. Bye."

She hung up the phone and right away went to practicing the song she was going to sing. Nothing could go wrong.
